National Charity League Brazos Belles Chapter Launches Book Drive to Rebuild School Libraries Affected by Hurricane Helene
The National Charity League (NCL), Brazos Belles Chapter is calling on the local community to contribute to an urgent book drive aimed at replenishing the libraries of schools devastated by Hurricane Helene. The drive, which runs now through January 10, 2025, seeks donations of new or gently used books suitable for students in grades K-12. These books will help restore essential educational resources and support young learners in their recovery from the storm’s impact.
Hurricane Helene, which struck in September of this year, left a trail of catastrophic destruction across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, affecting thousands of students and their schools. Many schools faced severe damage, including flooded classrooms and destroyed libraries. The loss of these resources has made it difficult for students to continue their studies and for teachers to provide the educational materials necessary for effective learning. The NCL Brazos Belles Chapter’s book drive aims to address this gap by providing books to schools in need, helping to rebuild educational foundations for children who have already experienced so much hardship.

The NCL Brazos Belles Chapter, part of the larger National Charity League, Inc. (NCL), has been actively involved in community service since its founding in 2019. With a commitment to developing young leaders and serving their communities, the Chapter organizes a variety of philanthropic efforts, including this book drive. Members of the Brazos Belles Chapter, consisting of mothers and daughters from the Fulshear, Richmond, Rosenberg, and Wallis areas, focus on fostering leadership skills and encouraging a spirit of service through hands-on community involvement.
The organization’s philanthropic focus extends beyond this current book drive. The Brazos Belles Chapter regularly partners with local and national nonprofits, offering support to organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and FaithFull Kids, among others. By working together, mothers and daughters in the Brazos Belles Chapter are helping to address a wide range of social issues and provide vital support to individuals and families in need. Their efforts aim to inspire social awareness, encourage volunteerism, and develop leadership skills among its members.
Book donations for the hurricane recovery effort can be dropped off at several locations throughout the community, including Fulshear Ace Hardware, Fulshear Run Book Club, Leman Junior High Library, ConocoPhillips Wood Group Houston, and many more. Every book, whether a brand-new title or a gently used one, will contribute to this vital cause and help rebuild the libraries and educational resources in the affected schools.
