Katy ISD Police Department Collaborates with DEA for Another Successful Prescription Drug Take Back Day
In a collective effort to secure the community's safety, Katy ISD Police Department successfully facilitated the recent Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This initiative saw more than 20 boxes of medication safely removed from circulation, further ensuring the reduction of potential substance abuse risks.
The event took place on October 26th, where an estimated 100 community members took the opportunity to discard their unused, expired, and unwanted prescription medication. According to Henry Gaw, Chief of Police in Katy ISD, the initiative was met with strong support from the community, expressing "This event is always well-supported and this year was no different."
The Katy ISD Police Department, in tandem with the DEA, hosts these Drug Take Back Day events twice annually, with the next one slated for April. Since its inception, the DEA has effectively collected over 17 million pounds of unused prescription medication.
