Designed for students entering grades 4 through 12, these camps offer an affordable, local opportunity to enhance musical and performance skills under the guidance of top educators from Katy ISD and the Houston region.

The lineup for Katy ISD Summer Fine Arts Camps 2025 includes Junior High Band, Choir, and Orchestra Camps; a Jazz Workshop; an Elementary Music Camp; and a Color Guard Camp. Comprehensive Summer Programming Across Fine Arts Disciplines

From foundational music exploration to advanced ensemble experiences, Katy ISD’s Fine Arts Summer Camps provide age-appropriate instruction and performance opportunities for students at every stage of their artistic journey. Each program is thoughtfully designed to blend skill-building with creativity, teamwork, and fun.

  • Elementary Music Camp (May 27–30 at Robertson Elementary): Open to rising 4th and 5th graders, this morning and afternoon program focuses on singing, musical movement, percussion, and collaboration. Led by certified elementary music teachers and junior high directors, students will prepare for a performance on May 30 that celebrates their musical progress.

  • Junior High Band Camp (June 2–5 or June 9–12 at Morton Ranch High School), for rising 7th–9th graders, offering ensemble experience, electives like jazz and film music, and daily rehearsals culminating in a Thursday concert.

  • Junior High Choir Camp (June 2–5 at WoodCreek Junior High), where campers in grades 6–8 work with guest clinicians and district choir directors to prepare for a final performance.

  • Junior High Orchestra Camp (June 2–5 at Paetow High School or June 9–12 at Jordan High School), available to students entering grades 7–9 with at least one year of orchestra experience.

  • Jazz Workshop (May 27–30 at Freeman High School), open to grades 7–12, including masterclasses, ensemble rehearsals, and a daily “Concert Series” featuring professional musicians.

  • Color Guard Camp (June 16–19 at the Leonard E. Merrill Center), for rising 5th–8th graders, providing instruction in movement and flag technique.

Each camp ends with a student showcase, giving families a chance to see the results of their children's dedication and growth.

Accessible, Affordable, and High-Quality Arts Education

According to organizers, Katy ISD designed these summer camps to be both economical and convenient for families seeking meaningful enrichment close to home. Camp fees are typically set at $150, which includes tuition and a camp t-shirt. Camps run four to five days, with daily schedules ranging from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, depending on the program.

Camp administrators emphasize that students of all ability levels are welcome. Most programs offer ensemble placements based on video auditions or director recommendations—not as a gatekeeping measure, but to ensure students are placed in groups that best support their musical development.

The Broader Benefits of Music and Summer Learning

Research consistently supports the benefits of music education, particularly during the summer months. The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) highlights that participation in music programs fosters discipline, creativity, and cognitive development while helping students build confidence and community.

"Summer music camps are more than just a way to prevent the ‘summer slide’—they’re a chance for students to deepen their skills, explore new genres, and collaborate with peers in a focused but fun environment," says a spokesperson for TMEA. "These experiences often translate into stronger performance during the academic year, both musically and academically."

By offering varied programming—from jazz and marching to classical and choral—Katy ISD gives students a chance to explore new facets of musical expression while preparing for the next school year. For rising high school freshmen, the camps provide a bridge between junior high and high school music programs, particularly beneficial for marching band and advanced ensemble readiness.
