Harris County Constable Precinct 5 Launches October Pajama Drive to Support Domestic Violence Survivors
October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and once again, Harris County Constable Precinct 5 is inviting the community to come together for a cause that brings comfort, dignity, and support to survivors. Their annual Pajama Drive is officially underway, collecting brand-new pajamas for women and children who have fled abusive situations and are now receiving help from local domestic violence agencies.
This heartwarming initiative is more than a collection drive—it’s a gesture of humanity during a deeply vulnerable time. Many domestic violence survivors leave their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs. Clean, cozy pajamas can be a small but powerful act of reassurance as they begin to rebuild.
This year’s drive is a collaborative effort between Harris County Precinct 5, Harris County Precinct 4, and the Willowfork Fire Department (Fort Bend County Emergency Services District No. 2), uniting neighborhoods across West Houston, Katy, and Fort Bend County.

Why This Drive Matters: Understanding Domestic Violence in Greater Houston
Domestic violence is a widespread crisis in the Greater Houston area. In 2023 alone, Harris County reported 38 domestic violence-related fatalities, the highest number in the state, according to data from the Texas Council on Family Violence and Houston Police Department. Statewide, Texas saw 205 family violence deaths last year, including women, men, and LGBTQ+ victims.
These statistics represent only the most extreme outcomes—many more survivors flee abusive households each year, often with no belongings or safe shelter. Local agencies like the Houston Area Women’s Center and Fort Bend Women’s Center continue to report high demand for emergency services, and community support through efforts like the Pajama Drive is critical to helping survivors begin to recover with dignity and warmth.
A Simple Gift, a Lasting Impact
For survivors, especially children, a clean pair of pajamas can be one of the first items of comfort they receive in a new and unfamiliar environment. It’s more than warmth—it’s a symbol of safety, stability, and care from a community that sees them and supports them.
As the community has shown in years past, a small act of kindness can ripple outward. Whether you pick up a pair of cozy sleepwear during your next grocery run or organize a mini-drive at your church, school, or workplace, every contribution counts.
