Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels to Spread Holiday Cheer with 15th Annual Secret Santa for Seniors
The spirit of giving is alive and well as Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels kicks off its 15th Annual Secret Santa for Seniors program. This cherished tradition, deeply rooted in the community, aims to bring joy and warmth to seniors in Fort Bend and Waller Counties. The program, which has become a time-honored tradition, demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the community to support and uplift its older residents.
Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels is dedicated to serving eligible seniors aged 60 and over in Fort Bend and Waller Counties. Active seniors benefit from hot meals and daily recreation activities at eight congregate center locations, while home-bound seniors receive daily and weekly hot meal deliveries through a network of staff and volunteer drivers. All services and programs are provided free of charge based on need, emphasizing inclusivity regardless of income.
To participate in the Secret Santa program, the community is invited to adopt a senior by purchasing a new gender-neutral bath towel set along with at least one personal care item. The thoughtful gifts may include a 2024 wall calendar, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, personal cleansing wipes, slip-proof socks, flashlight/nightlights, large print Sudoku/Crossword/Word Find Book, or a Christmas trinket. Amazon purchases are also welcome, with items shipped directly to the Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels office.
All gifts should be placed in large holiday-themed reusable shopping bags for easy delivery during regular meal deliveries. The first of the 1,200 deliveries to seniors will commence on November 27, 2023, with gifts accepted at the Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels office on Band Road in Rosenberg until December 1, 2023.
Fort Bend County boasts a significant and growing population of citizens aged 60 and above, with nearly 10% facing challenges preventing them from working and living at or below the poverty level. Currently, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels serves 1.2% of this population, and efforts are ongoing to expand support to reach more seniors in need. The annual Secret Santa for Seniors initiative aims to ensure that seniors in Fort Bend and Waller Counties experience the joy and warmth of the holiday season.
