Fort Bend County Libraries Hosts FAFSA Workshop to Help Students Secure College Financial Aid
Fort Bend County Libraries’ George Memorial Library will host a free workshop, “FAFSA 101: Unlocking College Financial Aid,” on Saturday, January 11, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. The workshop, designed for college-bound high school students and their parents, aims to simplify the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process. It will take place in the library’s Meeting Room at 1001 Golfview in Richmond.
The FAFSA is a critical resource for students seeking financial aid for higher education. By completing the application, students can access federal grants, loans, and work-study opportunities. Kathy Rose, Executive Director of CollegeCommunityCareer, a nonprofit organization in Sugar Land, will lead the workshop, providing an overview of the application process, offering insights into common mistakes, and explaining the differences between FAFSA and TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid).

“Completing the FAFSA is one of the most important steps students can take to make college more affordable,” Rose said. “Our goal is to equip families with the knowledge they need to navigate this process with confidence.”
The session comes at a crucial time, as the priority deadline for FAFSA submissions is February 15. Early application maximizes students' chances of receiving financial assistance, making workshops like this invaluable for families unfamiliar with the process. Participants will also learn about the specific documents and information required to complete the application.
To support attendees, worksheets for the FAFSA are available for download at the official FAFSA website. Space for the event is limited, so advanced registration is required. Interested participants can sign up online at www.fortbend.lib.tx.us or call the library at 281-341-2604.
Through this informative session, Fort Bend County Libraries aims to empower the community with essential resources for education. Don’t miss this opportunity to take the first step toward unlocking college financial aid.
