Denim Awareness Day: Far More Than a Fashion Statement

April 26 2023

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day, stand with Fort Bend Women's Center to raise awareness and support for much needed programs to help sexual assault survivors recover from violence.

The Fort Bend Women's Center urges members of the community to "Donate. Decorate. Advocate.”  Here are three easy ways you can help:

  1. Donate directly to Fort Bend Women's Center services for survivors: Fill out the form below, text FBWC to 243725, OR Donate your denim to any ThriftWise Resale Store. See Locations.
  2. Decorate a pair of jeans: Drop off the denim at a local ThriftWise Resale Store in support of survivors of sexual assault.
  3. Advocate for Survivors: Hold a Denim Day event at your workplace and take donations for wearing denim that day. Find the right opportunity for you (or a group!) and volunteer your time OR  advocate for survivors by following @ftbendwomensctr on social media and sharing posts to spread awareness.

Denim Day is not a mere fashion statement - it's a show of solidarity dating back to 1992 when a 16 year-old girl was the victim of sexual assault, a case that drew international attention and support for justice to be brought to the victim and other victims like her around the world. To learn more about the history of Denim Day, watch the video below.

About Fort Bend Women's Center

FBWC's mission is to assist ALL survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children to achieve safety and self-sufficiency, while striving to prevent violence against women. Since their founding in 1980, the Fort Bend Women’s Center has helped more than 52,000 survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. They are always here to help their neighbors in their time of need.

FBWC is the primary provider of assistance services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Fort Bend County, just outside of Houston, Texas. Their goal is to guide survivors as they heal from their abuse. They equip them with the emotional, psychological and practical skills and resources to create a hopeful, safe, independent life free of abuse.

All of their services are completely free of charge and open to ALL survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault - regardless of gender, age, race, religion, sexual orientation or identity - because they believe EVERY survivor deserves the chance to thrive.
