Six CFISD Destination Imagination teams placed in the top five at the Lone Star Finals, held at the University of Texas-Arlington March 24-25, in order to qualify for the DI Global Finals.

The following groups advanced to the international competition, set for May 20-23 in Kansas City, Mo.:

Destination Imagination is a worldwide creative problem-solving organization where teams of up to seven students choose a challenge to compete in. Challenges are multifaceted and students need skills in engineering, fine arts, teamwork and creativity in order to solve them. Teams work for months on the solution to their challenge, and present solutions in front of a team of appraisers at a regional tournament.

More than 70 teams consisting of CFISD students in grades 1-12 competed in this year’s Destination Imagination Regional tournament. The Gulf Coast Destination Imagination tournament was held Feb. 25 at Mayde Creek High School featuring other competing teams from Katy ISD and Fort Bend ISD.

The following CFISD teams placed and won awards:
  • Cypress Problem Solvers, Smith, McGown and Pope – first place (Technical Challenge A and Xtreme Challenge);
  • The Brainy Amigos, Bridgeland – first place (Scientific Challenge B);
  • Mystic Minds, Smith – first place (Scientific Challenge B);
