Typhoon Texas Houston to Host World’s Largest Swim Lesson on June 26 to Promote Water Safety
On the morning of June 26, Typhoon Texas Houston will join aquatic centers around the globe for the World’s Largest Swim Lesson, a coordinated international event aimed at raising awareness about drowning prevention and water safety.
From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the popular Katy-based waterpark will open its gates to children and families participating in this lifesaving initiative. The event is free for all registered participants and one accompanying adult, and includes a complimentary day pass to the park, a certificate of participation, and the opportunity for additional guests to purchase discounted admission at $39.99 during the event.
According to organizers, check-in begins at 9:00 a.m., with the 30-minute swim lesson starting promptly at 9:30 a.m. Participants and their plus-ones are invited to stay and enjoy the full waterpark experience for the rest of the day.
The World’s Largest Swim Lesson is a global campaign that unites facilities on six continents in a single, synchronized effort to teach basic water competency skills. The goal: combat the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1–14—drowning.
“We’re proud to host the World’s Largest Swim Lesson—a global event promoting water safety and drowning prevention,” Typhoon Texas staff shared in a public announcement.

Typhoon Texas Houston: A Local Favorite With a Mission
Since its debut in 2016, Typhoon Texas Houston has become a beloved summer destination for families across Greater Houston. Located just off I-10 in Katy, the sprawling 25-acre park features a wide variety of attractions—from the high-speed Tidal Wave Bay and Monster Storms slides to the relaxing Lazy T River and the kid-friendly Buckaroo Bayou. The park is known for its Texas-themed hospitality, lively atmosphere, and dedication to family fun.
In addition to its recreational offerings, Typhoon Texas has also served as a venue for community-focused events. By hosting the World’s Largest Swim Lesson, the park is participating in a broader effort to promote water safety education and public awareness.
Why Water Safety Matters
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drowning claims the lives of nearly 4,000 people in the U.S. each year and is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1 to 4.
Research published in the journal Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine suggests that formal swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by up to 88% among children in this age group. While not a guarantee, these findings highlight the importance of early swim education and water safety training as critical prevention tools.
This annual event serves as a reminder that swim lessons aren’t just for summer fun—they’re a necessary skill that can save lives. Hosting the event at an accessible and family-friendly venue like Typhoon Texas allows more families to get involved in a relaxed, encouraging environment.
