Description

This presentation will discuss some of the Civil Rights related events that occurred in the 1960s and show how black artists in the 1960s and 1970s reacted through their work. Black artists were rarely recognized by major art institutions at that time and even years after. In 2020, the Museum of Fine Arts had an exhibition called Soul of a Nation and the artwork of many artists that were represented in that exhibition will be discussed during this presentation. These artists had a unique perspective that can help us relate to some events happening in our society now.
