Description
Our annual Faith, Hope, and Love Benefit Luncheon raises funds for programs that have at their core those in our community who are going through hard times. Heartbroken when they come to WHAM, they are met with hope and compassion and provided food, financial assistance, and employment resources to get them back on their feet. It is thanks to the support of community members like you that we can give them a reason to smile again after receiving desperately needed assistance!
Luncheon EMC
Three-time Emmy Award winning journalist Chauncy Glover started his TV career two days after graduating college at WTVM News Leader 9 in Georgia. Two years later, he joined CBS 47 and Fox 30 in Florida as a special projects and General Assignment reporter. He has earned a reputation for breaking exclusive stories, including a national exclusive with the "Hollywood Hacker," Christopher Chaney, and another with a teacher present at the Sandy Hook Massacre in Newtown, among others. Chauncy has won several awards for his story "Chauncy's Journey," which featured him reuniting with his family in his hometown, which had been devastated by tornadoes. He later worked with viewers to set up a trip to Alabama where they delivered food, clothes, household items and funds to help rebuild a church.
In response to a tragedy he witnessed that involved a young student, he established "The Chauncy Glover Project," a hands-on mentoring program that grooms 7-12th graders into upstanding gentlemen through dressing for success, etiquette, college readiness, tutoring, public speaking community service and more. He was born and raised in Athens, Alabama, and is honored to be Anchor/ Reporter for ABC13 here in Houston, Texas. Meet Chauncy in this video.
Keynote Speaker
Houston Astros Legend and 2022 Astros Hall of Fame Inductee, Terry Puhl, will be our speaker this year. Terry is one of the longest-serving Astros players in team history, surpassed only by fellow Hall of Famers Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell. He ranks in the top 10 all time in franchise history including games played, hits, doubles, triples and runs scored. He is also a member of both the Canadian Baseball of Fame and the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame.
Join us to hear about his interesting life and career, and the ways giving back has come to be an important part of his life since leaving the Astros.
