Buy Fireworks in Katy to Support Local Veterans Through American Legion Post 164’s July 4th Fundraiser

June 21 2025

As Katy area residents prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July, American Legion Post 164 in Katy is asking locals to ignite something even more meaningful: support for local veterans and youth. From June 24 through July 4, the nonprofit will operate a fireworks stand at their post, located at 22125 Kingsland Blvd., with all proceeds going directly to veteran-focused initiatives and youth leadership programs across the community.

“Buy from us and know that your purchase is going to support a worthy charity,” urges the Post 164 family, a diverse network of veterans, riders, auxiliary members, and volunteers committed to serving the Katy area.

A Legacy of Service Rooted in Katy

Founded in 2001 by a group of veterans—including members of VFW Post 9182 and others not eligible for VFW membership—Post 164 was created to give wartime veterans a place of their own. From its first meeting in Mary Jo Peckham Park to its current home on Kingsland Boulevard, the Post has steadily grown and earned recognition for its community leadership.

In 2004, the Post was officially named after Lt. Jonathan D. Rozier, a Katy High School graduate and U.S. Army officer killed in action in Iraq. His legacy lives on through the Post’s ongoing efforts to honor service and sacrifice.

Post 164 is part of The American Legion, the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, chartered by Congress in 1919. With more than 2.4 million members nationwide, the Legion is committed to patriotism, youth mentorship, veteran advocacy, and civic engagement at the local level.

How Fireworks Sales Help the Community

Fireworks sales are more than a fundraiser—they’re a lifeline for the Post’s year-round programming. Funds raised support a wide range of efforts, including:

  • American Legion Boys State: Post 164 selects outstanding local high school juniors to attend this prestigious leadership program held annually at the University of Texas in Austin. The immersive experience teaches the inner workings of government and civic responsibility.

  • Oratorical Contests & Scholarships: Local students compete in speaking competitions focused on the U.S. Constitution, earning scholarships and leadership experience.

  • Junior Shooting Sports Program: This marksmanship and safety initiative provides youth with structured, safe instruction while fostering discipline and focus.

  • Wreaths Across America: Each December, the Post joins the community to place remembrance wreaths at the graves of fallen veterans at Katy Magnolia Cemetery.

  • Veterans Outreach: Post 164 visits local nursing homes on Veterans Day, hosts memorial ceremonies on Flag Day and Pearl Harbor Day, and participates in the Katy Rodeo Parade and 9/11 Commemoration.

  • Community Events: From the Rice Harvest Festival booth to the annual Ice Cream Social and the monthly “Breakfast with a Veteran” at the Elks Lodge, Post 164 is a year-round presence in the Katy community.
