Give the Ultimate Gift of Service with The Pink Ladies This Holiday Season
Although the Cy-Fair Women's Club's annual fundraiser, Shop 'til You Drop, is in the books, the Pink Ladies remain steadfast in their commitment to Cy-Fair through volunteerism across the region, with many opportunities for members of the community to join the effort through the balance of the year. With the holidays just around the corner, the Pink Ladies are gearing up for a busy season of service to the community, and you are invited to participate.
On October 28, the CWC Pink Ladies will be volunteering at Entrusted Houston, 501(c)3 organization providing support for foster and adoptive families, Child Protective Services (CPS), and biological families across Houston in a variety of capacities. Pink Ladies will be helping with much-needed tasks like sorting clothing and assisting with monthly clean-up of Entrusted Houston's warehouse.
From now until December 7, the CWC will hold a holiday collection specifically for teen holiday gifts to be donated at Cypress Assistance Ministries' (CAM) Merriment at the Ministry event. Typically, CAM has an abundance of holiday gifts for younger children, but a very limited number of donations for teens. The CWC aims to bridge the gap with teen holiday gifts, which include cosmetic bags, journals (girl/boy), and cologne/body spray (girl/boy), as well as gift cards for popular retailers like JC Penney, Kohls, Old Navy, Academy Sports, Marshals, Ross, TJ Maxx, Walmart, and Target. The CWC suggests gift cards are valued at $25, although any amount would be appreciated. From December 11 through 13, the Pink Ladies will help CAM distribute toys to needy families, with shifts from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If you would like to help donate and/or volunteer for this holiday collection, please contact cwcpublicrelations@gmail.com.
On November 4, the CWC Pink Ladies, along with their spouses and friends, will roll up their sleeves at Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) to build beds for children who do not have a bed. SHP firmly believes that "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!" At a build, bed parts are cut, sanded, and branded, then stored for delivery day, where the bed is assembled at the client's house. Tasks are simple and safe, with training for a task that each individual volunteer is comfortable with.
Just a few days later, the CWC Pink Ladies will be volunteering on November 9 at the Tunnel to Towers Foundation Veteran Village Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The Pink Ladies have been asked to assist at refreshment stations, stocking a grab-and-go breakfast for attendees, and boxing messages of hope for Veterans.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is a nonprofit organization that honors the memory and legacy of Firefighter Stephen Siller, who gave up his life to save others on September 11, 2001. Siller had just finished his shift at Brooklyn’s Squad 1 when he heard about a plane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Center. He strapped his 60-pound gear on his back and raced on foot through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to save others in the Twin Towers. Siller gave up his life that day and left behind siblings, his wife, Sally, five children, extended family, and friends. He lived by the inspirational saying, “while we have time, let us do good.” The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors first responders and military veterans who continue to sacrifice their lives for our country, creating programs to help those in need while honoring and remembering these heroes.
On November 10, the Langham Creek YMCA has asked the Pink Ladies to volunteer on the first day of their Pickle Ball Tournament, where they will help set up, sign in players, direct them to the correct courts, and bring scores back to the table. Pickle Ball has been gaining popularity over the past few years. Later that afternoon, the Pink Ladies will lend a hand at MESA Outreach, examining, sorting, washing and labeling donated coats for children to be given away with Thanksgiving food boxes on November 11.
Then on November 14, the Pink Ladies will help deliver prepare compassion bags to Cy-Fair Helping Hands for our homeless neighbors. Since 2010, Cy-Fair Helping Hands has worked diligently to help the homeless of Cy-Fair become self-sufficient, offering programs like the provision of Emergency Shelter for families with children, scholarships for underprivileged students, Homeless Street Outreach, a Homeless Day Center, programs for CFISD students, and events and programs during the holidays and at back-to-school time.
With many volunteer opportunities on the horizon across the region this holiday season and throughout the year, there's something for everyone. For more information about volunteering with the Cy-Fair Women's Club, please contact cwcpublicrelations@gmail.com.
