Used Book Sale
The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their next used book sale.  There is a large selection of hardback fiction and nonfiction, as well as children’s books and paperbacks.  We will also be hosting a Friends Members-Only preview on Friday, March 24 from 4:00- 5:30 pm.  Membership can be bought at the door.  Come see all our insane bargains.  All proceeds will benefit the library.

Basic Excel
Are you interested in getting more out of your Microsoft Excel program? The Maud Marks Library will be teaching the basics of how to use Microsoft Excel. This program is geared toward beginners with a basic understanding of how to use a computer. Learn Microsoft Excel at a beginning level as we do a live tutorial on how to use the program and its basic functions. Topics include inserting data, formulas, and creating charts. A take-home presentation of what was covered and an activity sheet will be given out.  Registration required and space is limited!

Create Your Resume Using Google Docs
Google Docs offers tips and templates for resumes, and more! Join us as we demonstrate how to make the most of Google Docs templates for resumes. Templates are a great option for resumes because they take the guesswork out of formatting! We’ll review some of the helpful features of Google Docs, like sharing, reviewing, and commenting privileges, as well as how to save and share your doc as a PDF. Finally, we’ll go over some dos and don’ts for resume content.  This class is sponsored by AARP.  Pre-registration is required.  The class will fill up quickly, so don’t delay.

"Read & Rhyme Storytime" - Pre-school Storytime
This program provides children (ages 3-5) with early literacy skills through oral language, phonological awareness and print recognition. Crafts and or coloring sheets will be provided for children at the end of story time. 
 
Tuesdays at 11:15 am
Pre School Explorers
Children ages 2 ½ to 5 are invited to come to the Maud Marks Library on Tuesdays at 11:15 AM as we learn about the world. There will be plenty of stations for science and sensory exploration as we experience different senses.  No registration is required.  There will be NO Pre School Explorers on Tuesday, March 14 due to a special Storytime for spring break.

"Patty Cake Infant Time" - Infant Storytime
Join us for an interactive early literacy experience for infants and their caretakers. This program geared to 3-17 months features nursery rhymes, songs, books, and fingerplays!

"Totally Toddler Time" - Toddler Storytime
Toddler Time provides a fun early literacy experience for toddlers aged 18– 35 months. Toddlers participate through songs, finger plays, shared reading, parachute fun and group activities. Please arrive 15 minutes before the program to receive a ticket which will be used to attend the program.

Wednesday Wonders
School-Age children are invited to let their imaginations soar at the Maud Marks Library. Children grades K-5 can come explore the world through arts, crafts, and STEM projects every Wednesday at 4:30 pm at the library.

Timeless Travelers: Houston Zoo
Seniors 55+ are invited to join the Maud Marks Library’s Timeless Travelers program for a trip to visit the Houston Zoo, courtesy of the Friends of Maud Marks Library and Precinct Three Transportation.  Tuesday, April 4 at 9 AM, the bus departs from the Maud Marks Library for a fun-filled day exploring the Houston Zoo.  See the monkeys, giraffes, lions, and more! Participants are responsible for their own lunch.  The bus will arrive back at the library at approximately 5:30 PM.  Registration opens March 13.

Do you have any burning questions about the technology you own? Are you trying to learn how to use your computer and have been running into problems? We will have personnel ready to assist you with your technology problems. Bring your own laptop, or we will have two public laptops available to use. Get your technology problems solved!

Did you know that not having any social media could be a red flag for potential employers? Join us as we discuss ways to make sure social media helps you when you’re looking for work! We’ll review the best platforms for professional use, as well as which platforms are best kept private and for personal use. Lastly, we’ll demonstrate which privacy settings to use to keep your personal content private. This class is taught by an AARP digital professional.

Then our newest book club, Reading Through History, will meet on the third Wednesday of the month.  We will be discussing The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis. Join us as we read historical fiction and non-fiction books to experience history through the eyes of others. Desserts are welcome.

Summer Volunteering at the Library
Volunteer opportunities abound at the Maud Marks Library during the summer. Volunteers are needed to help shelve, count patrons, coordinate summer programs, hand out certificates, and more. Students should be going into the 7th grade or older and must be able to commit to two hours twice a week. Please bring your summer vacation plans with you when you come to apply.  Applications will be due back by Monday, May 22 at 6 PM.  If you would like to help in any way, please contact Hannah Blanton at 832-927-7860.

Timeless Travelers: Houston Ship Channel
Seniors 55+ are invited to join the Maud Marks Library’s Timeless Travelers program as we visit the Houston Ship Channel, courtesy of the Friends of Maud Marks Library and Precinct Four Transportation. The bus departs from the Maud Marks Library area for a tour of the Houston Ship Channel as we discover the history and ecology of our valuable resource. We will also be having a seafood lunch on the way.
 
Registration for our random drawing runs April 17-22.   Timeless Travelers is a program series promoting educational and cultural enrichment for senior adults.  Once a month we will be taking free bus trips all across southeast Texas to experience the culture and history of this great state.  The only requirement is that you are old enough to attend (55+).  Thanks to the Friends of the Maud Marks Library for sponsoring this series.
