Katy ISD Launches KEYS Mentorship Program for 2024-2025 School Year to Foster Student Success and Personal Growth

September 05 2024

Katy ISD is preparing to launch its mentorship program, the Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success (KEYS), for the 2024-2025 school year. The kick-off event is set to take place on Friday, September 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Leonard E. Merrell Center, with the theme "Your Mentor Story Starts Here."

The innovative KEYS program, administered by Katy ISD Partners in Education, is a powerful tool aimed at cultivating trust, confidence, and personal growth in students through one-on-one mentorship. The mentors, an eclectic group from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, commit to dedicating an hour each week of the school year to a student.

The program's unique emphasis is focused on fostering relationships rather than focusing purely on academic achievement. Teachers, counselors, and administrators identify suitable candidates for the program, while mentors are meticulously recruited from the local community by Katy ISD Partners in Education.

According to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a nonprofit dedicated to helping young people reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens, mentoring plays an indispensable role in youth development. Through consistent support and acceptance, a mentor can guide young people through challenges, encourage exploration of personal paths, and nurture resilience in the face of adversity. By validating their mentees' individuality and conveying trust, mentors create a conducive environment for young people to gain from their experiences and make well-informed decisions.

The kickoff event promises to be an energizing experience with the community invited to partake and join the KEYS mentor family. The event has an exciting lineup featuring student performances by the Morton Ranch High School Mariachi group and breakout sessions with district experts for both new and seasoned mentors. Attendees are asked to RSVP by September 11, 2024 at tinyurl.com/KeysRSVP
