Katy ISD Welcomes 97,000+ Students for 2025–26 School Year with Two New Campuses and Expanded Safety Measures
The excitement of the first day of the 2025–26 school year filled Katy ISD campuses Tuesday morning as families, educators, and students celebrated a fresh start. This fall, the district welcomed more than 97,000 students and 14,000 educators and staff across over 100 campuses and facilities.
Among the biggest moments of the day was the debut of two new elementary schools — Boudny Elementary in the Elyson community and Cross Elementary in Sunterra. Both schools were designed to serve up to 1,368 students, helping to meet the needs of the fast-growing northwest quadrant of the district.
Superintendent Highlights Milestone Year
“The first day of school is always special, but welcoming students to two brand-new campuses this year marks an exciting milestone for our community,” said Katy ISD Superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski. “As our district continues to grow, we remain focused on delivering safe, innovative and high-quality learning environments that prepare every student for success, in school and beyond.”
Cross Elementary is the only elementary school in Katy ISD with a solar farm. The environmentally friendly feature generates electricity directly for the campus, offsets energy costs, and offers long-term savings as part of the 2023 Bond.

New Learning Opportunities for Students
This year, Katy ISD is introducing expanded career and technical education programs, offering students more pathways toward real-world skills and certifications. New options include:
- Water Operations Licensing Program
- Real Estate Program
- Virtual learning program expansion launching in Fall 2026
These additions join an already robust set of academic offerings designed to prepare students for both college and career success.
Safety Enhancements Beyond State Requirements
Katy ISD is continuing to lead with a comprehensive, multilayered safety approach that goes beyond state mandates. New measures include:
- Specialized door security devices to allow rapid classroom lockdowns
- Perimeter fencing at all elementary campuses
- Trained and armed security guards at every elementary school
- Both armed police officers and security guards at every junior high and high school
These steps ensure a visible and responsive safety presence across the district.
First Day Celebrations at Boudny Elementary
Dr. Gregorski welcomed students and families at Boudny Elementary with high fives, handshakes, and smiles alongside principal Felicia Ashabranner.
The day also featured a special visit from Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones, who read to kindergarten students. Briones — a former classroom teacher and the daughter of educators — shared her passion for public education: “As the daughter of educators, a former teacher and a proud mom, I care deeply about giving every child the tools and opportunities to thrive,” Briones said.

“Reading to the kindergartners at Boudny Elementary was especially meaningful. I am grateful for Katy ISD’s commitment to preparing students for the classroom and for life, and for the educators who inspire them every day. To every student, parent and educator, we are here to serve you and make this year a great one!”
A Year of Growth and Community Connection
With two new schools, expanded academic programs, and enhanced safety, Katy ISD’s 2025–26 school year is set to be one of opportunity, innovation, and community spirit. Families across the district are stepping into the year with confidence — and a lot of smiles.
