Houston Methodist West Welcomes New CEO Carl Little During Historic Growth Era

January 29 2026

In a strategic leadership transition, Houston Methodist West Hospital has announced that Carl Little will become its new Chief Executive Officer this April. The announcement marks the next chapter in the hospital’s rapid evolution, as it continues expanding to meet the needs of the fast-growing Katy and West Houston areas.

Little currently serves as senior vice president of Houston Methodist and CEO of Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. A familiar face within the Houston Methodist system, he brings nearly 15 years of leadership experience, having served in roles ranging from vice president and COO at Houston Methodist Willowbrook to director of Business Development and an administrator within the Houston Methodist Physician Organization.

“This is a homecoming for Carl and his family,” said Dr. Marc L. Boom, president and CEO of Houston Methodist. “He knows what this community values in a hospital, and I’m excited to see all he’ll accomplish in his new role.”

Little steps into the position following the retirement of Wayne Voss, who served Houston Methodist West for almost two decades. Voss’s tenure saw transformative growth—including national recognition and a $247 million expansion project currently underway.

“I am committed to our vision of providing unparalleled safety, quality, service and innovation,” Little shared. “It has been a true privilege to serve Houston Methodist, and I’m excited to help our organization grow and excel in service to our community in my new role at Houston Methodist West.”

Houston Methodist West has grown into one of the region’s most recognized health care institutions since opening its doors in 2010. Strategically located just west of Barker Cypress along I-10, the hospital currently houses over 200 beds and is expanding to accommodate 307, part of a major capital investment aimed at meeting increased demand in the Katy area—one of Texas’ fastest-growing communities.

The hospital’s planned enhancements include a new 36-bed observation unit, four state-of-the-art operating rooms, 16 additional emergency department rooms, expanded neonatal intensive care capabilities, and a modernized endoscopy suite. Patient-focused additions, such as an upgraded imaging center and a 24/7 gift shop, further emphasize the hospital’s community-centric mission. Beyond the main campus, a new comprehensive care center is also being developed in Fulshear to extend services closer to where people live.

Carl Little’s appointment comes at a time when Houston Methodist West is receiving widespread recognition for its care quality. In September 2025, the hospital ranked No. 4 nationally for complex care by Vizient Inc., placing it among the country’s top-performing facilities. This recognition reflects the continued system-wide excellence across Houston Methodist, which also includes hospitals in The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Baytown, and the Texas Medical Center.

“It is an honor for Houston Methodist West Hospital to be recognized by Vizient,” outgoing CEO Wayne Voss said at the time. “This reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses and staff to delivering the highest standards of care.”

That commitment remains steadfast as the hospital welcomes its new leader. With a Master of Science in health care administration and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Trinity University, Carl Little brings not only experience but a deep understanding of the operational and community dynamics that define healthcare in Katy and West Houston.

Houston Methodist West Hospital is part of the larger Houston Methodist system, which was recently named the Best Hospital in Texas for the 14th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report. The system is nationally ranked in 10 specialties and continues to build on a century-long legacy of leadership in patient care.

As the hospital looks toward the future—bolstered by growth, innovation, and community investment—Carl Little’s arrival signals a continued focus on compassionate, high-quality care close to home.
