Heroic Officer Honored
By Tom Jackson, Former Texas SAR President
On December 13, 2022, Senior Police Officer (SPO) Raul S. Collins with the Houston Police Department was honored with the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce Certificate of Honor and the National Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Law Enforcement Medal and Certificate at the monthly chamber luncheon held at the Berry Center. SPO Collins received his award with Sergeant Dennis Tabora and Senior Police Officer Josephine Jonesin in attendance. Former Texas SAR President Tom Jackson presented the award to SPO Collins for serving with distinction and devotion in the field of law enforcement. The commendation, read by Sgt Tabora, contained, in part, the following description.
Over the course of his years of service, SPO Collins has exemplified the highest standards of service by virtue of his diligence, dedication, and character. SPO Collins is currently assigned to the Office of Community Affairs where he serves as a Community Liaison Officer. He is relentlessly and consistently finding new ways to connect and educate citizens on numerous safety topics. SPO Collins has a burning desire to see youth become successful in life and therefore regularly mentors, speaks and provides presentations on "real life" issues. His discussions with youth range from teen issues, vaping, conflict resolution, channeling disappointment, volunteerism, and education. SPO Collins uses his personal experiences when speaking to youth and he makes it relatable to the tough issues they face daily. His dedication to youth has led him to work well beyond a typical 8-hour shift as he often works on his days off. SPO Collins is a shining example of what a great mentor and police officer looks like.
The Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce hosts a monthly luncheon where First Responders are highlighted for their contributions to the community. For several years the Robert Rankin Chapter Public Service Committee, chaired by Tom Jackson with assistance from Allan Perkins, have presented the monthly honoree with one of the National SAR Public Service Medals and Certificates: Law Enforcement, Fire Safety, EMS, Life Saving or Heroism. In addition to the Law Enforcement medal, SPO Collins, along with Sgt Tabora and Sgt Jonesin, received a Certificate of Appreciation for Covid Heroic Service from the Rankin Chapter.
