Fighting Clothing Insecurity: Clothed By Faith Offers Hope, Dignity, and Style for Struggling Families
The Clothed By Faith "workshop" in Katy has been extremely busy this season, where volunteers are working hard assembling much-needed bags of clothing for everyone on their "list". Although there is an uptick in need during the holidays, Clothed By Faith sees a steady need for clothing assistance across the community throughout the year, especially as families continue to feel the pressure of inflation and soaring living costs.
Ever stopped to consider what it's like not to have enough clothes to wear? It's a reality many children and adults face across the Katy area every day. That's where Clothed By Faith steps in with a simple goal: to provide a week's worth of free clothing to those who need it most. The Clothed By Faith team and their dedicated volunteers are much like personal stylists for those in need, curating a collection of gently used and donated clothing, shoes, along with brand-new underwear and socks for each person. These items aren't just tossed in a bag. They're carefully chosen, sorted, and packaged in a gift bag made just for them, a small gesture with a big impact to uplift their spirits, bring a little confidence, and instill hope.
Clothed By Faith founded by Abi Fourie, a former immigrant who experienced poverty firsthand. The organization evolved from a garage filled with donated clothes in 2013, when Abi felt a divine call to serve the needy in her community of Katy. She later found support in Audrey Hosie and Susanne Hewson, two Scottish sisters who lent their operational, financial, and management skills to establish a solid foundation for the project. Over the years, Clothed By Faith transitioned from a storage unit to a small business park unit and finally to a larger unit in Dominion Drive owned by Kingsland Baptist Church. Today, it operates two branches in Katy and Deer Park, with a prominent volunteer program at its core.
In partnership with over 120 community-based organizations and 25 school districts who serve their surrounding areas, clothed by Faith has served over 122,223 people since 2013, including children and adults in need right here in Katy. Clothed By Faith is able to provide clothing for a week to someone in crisis for just $25, with 95% of their work being done by their dedicated volunteer team.
This holiday season, Clothed By Faith in Katy plans to package over 750 client bags in their request system before they close for Christmas Break. If any "Katy Elves" have an hour or two to spare this week, contact Clothed By Faith and signup to help with sorting clothes and making up bags.
