Early Evenings Are Here: Stay Safe Outdoors as Daylight Savings Time Ends
As we approach the end of Daylight Savings Time on November 3, 2024, you might have noticed that sunset is coming earlier each evening. This means our streets will seem darker sooner, which is especially important to keep in mind as families with young children, dog walkers, and other residents are likely to be out enjoying the cooler temperatures.
Increased Evening Activity
With the arrival of fall, many families will be spending more time outdoors, whether it’s for evening strolls, walking the dog, or just enjoying the beautiful weather. As you drive through the neighborhood—whether in your vehicle, golf cart, or on a bicycle—please be mindful of pedestrians and children at play.
Importance of Functional Streetlights
Functional streetlights are essential for everyone's safety, especially with Halloween around the corner. As children head out to trick-or-treat in the neighborhood, well-lit streets and sidewalks will help ensure their safety and visibility. If you notice any streetlights that are out, it’s important to report them promptly to keep our community well-lit and safe.
Reporting Streetlight Outages
Remember the adage "see something, say something"? If you see a streetlight out, you can make a difference in your community by reporting it for maintenance or repairs. You can easily report streetlight outages to CenterPoint Energy by visiting their reporting page at CenterPoint EnergyStreetlight Reporting. When reporting, please provide the address of the pole or the pole number, which can be found vertically posted on the pole just above eye level. It just takes a few seconds and can help enhance safety in the neighborhood on Halloween night and beyond.
Looking Out for Each Other
Let’s all do our part to keep our neighborhood safe as we enjoy the cooler evenings and upcoming Halloween festivities. By staying alert and reporting any streetlight issues, we can ensure a safe environment for everyone in our community. Enjoy the beautiful fall evenings, and don’t forget to set your clocks back on November 3rd!
