Cool Off at These Harris County Public Library Branches This Weekend

Harris County Office of Homeland Security and  Emergency Management has activated cooling centers across Harris County for the July 4th holiday and the following weekend.

  • Eight Harris County Public Library branches are designated cooling centers on Thursday, July 4, and Sunday, July 7, when libraries are typically closed. 
  • Most HCPL branches will be open an additional hour on Saturday, July 6, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. 

Please note that library services will not be offered on the July 4th holiday and on Sunday, when HCPL branches are typically closed. Services may also be limited during the Saturday extended hour, but library meeting rooms will welcome everyone who wants to escape the heat.

Below is the HCPL schedule for July 4 - 7.

Thursday, July 4

Eight HCPL Cooling Centers will be open from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. No library services will be available during cooling center hours.
Barbara Bush Branch Library | Fairbanks Branch Library | Galena Park Branch Library | High Meadows Branch Library | Katherine Tyra Branch Library @ Bear Creek | Maud Smith Marks Branch Library | North Channel Branch Library | Northwest Branch Library 

All other HCPL branches are closed for the holiday.

Friday, July 5

Normal business hours

Saturday, July 6

Extended hours: MOST branches will be open until 6:00 PM. Note: library services may be limited during extended hours, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.

Branches WITHOUT extended hours: Baldwin Boettcher Branch Library, LSC-CyFair Library, LSC-Tomball Community Library, and West University Branch Library.

Sunday, July 7

Eight HCPL Cooling Centers will be open from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. No library services will be available during cooling center hours.
