Bridgeland HS Choir Wins Runner-Up in Prestigious Madrigal Festival
Bridgeland High School Chamber Choir was named first runner-up at the American Classics Madrigal and Chamber Choir Festival held February 23-24 in San Antonio.
Forty-eight choirs from across the state and as far away as Missouri competed in the festival, which is now in its 53rd year of existence. This is the second consecutive year that Bridgeland has earned this high honor.
“This competition is like none other in that there is such a spirit of camaraderie and respect that every choir has for one another,” said Chris Fiorini, Bridgeland choir director. “Going to Madrigal Festival consistently pushes not only the students but the directors to achieve far past what we believe our limitations to be. We are thrilled with our results and I am so proud of how invested our kids were in the music-making process.”
Four CFISD schools received Performance of Distinction awards. These awards are given to choirs that perform at an exceptionally high level and that judges want to recognize for the incredible artistry displayed. Chamber choirs from Cy-Fair, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Woods, and Jersey Village high schools were awarded a Performance of Distinction rating.
A new category was introduced this year for smaller ensembles of fewer than 20 members. In this newly formed category, Cypress Lakes High School was awarded third runner-up.

“These students are some of the best around,” said John Morrison, director of fine arts. “I’m especially thankful for the wonderful teachers that continue to inspire these students to give just a little bit more to create these exceptional musical moments.”
