Manage Holiday Stress with Some Tips at the Library
Has the hustle and bustle of the holiday season begun to be more stressful than joyful? Get tips on managing that holiday stress more effectively when Fort Bend County Libraries presents “Practical Skills for Navigating Social Anxiety During the Holiday Season” on Saturday, December 3, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library, 2620 Commercial Center Blvd in Katy.
Licensed professional counselor Deanna Diamond will discuss the common triggers for anxiety and depression with which many people struggle during the holidays. She will share practical coping tools to help individuals modify their thoughts and manage their emotions when faced with stressful situations that may arise during the holidays, such as balancing financial limits with others’ expectations, coping with the increasing unpredictability of travel, losing privacy and personal space as a guest in someone else’s home, navigating the stress of “plus one” functions, or dealing with uncomfortable familial situations.
Diamond will also share some brief behavioral techniques that can be used to redirect and change one’s outlook quickly when feeling overwhelmed by others’ enthusiasm for the season.
Diamond has a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston-Victoria. She has working in counseling and mental-health support for five years, specializing in anxiety and depression.
The programs are free and open to the public. For more information, see the Fort Bend County Libraries website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us) or call the Cinco Ranch Branch Library (281-395-1311).
