Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital Announces $282.5 Million Expansion to Serve Growing Katy-Area Population

October 24 2025

Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital is preparing for a significant expansion to meet the healthcare needs of the rapidly growing Katy region. On October 23, 2025, Memorial Hermann Health System announced a $282.5 million project that will significantly increase the hospital’s capacity, services, and capabilities. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026.

At the heart of the expansion is a new eight-story patient tower that will add inpatient beds, advanced imaging services, and a rooftop helipad to support Memorial Hermann Life Flight®. Additional upgrades are also planned across the campus, including the expansion of the pediatric emergency center, surgical services, women’s and children’s services, the laboratory, pharmacy, kitchen, cafeteria, and various support services.

The new tower is expected to not only increase inpatient bed capacity but also allow for more advanced procedures and streamlined patient care. The rooftop helipad will directly connect trauma patients to Memorial Hermann’s Level I Trauma Center at the Texas Medical Center when needed, further integrating Katy’s care into the broader regional system. Pediatric services will also see a substantial upgrade, with a focus on expanding the pediatric emergency center to better serve young patients and their families in the fast-growing Katy area.

Women’s and children’s services will receive both structural and clinical enhancements, supporting prenatal care, labor and delivery, neonatal intensive care, and pediatric recovery. Surgical services will be expanded to include additional operating rooms equipped with the latest in minimally invasive and robotic surgical technologies.

Behind the scenes, the expansion includes essential infrastructure upgrades—such as enlarging the pharmacy and laboratory to accommodate increased patient volume, and expanding food services including a larger kitchen and cafeteria to improve the overall patient and visitor experience.

“We are proud to announce Memorial Hermann Katy’s third major expansion in recent years,” said Jerry Ashworth, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Katy and Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospitals. “We are making this strategic investment in response to the phenomenal growth of the greater Katy community along with our ongoing commitment to create personalized and compassionate experiences for our patients.”

This new project follows closely on the heels of a recently completed expansion celebrated in September 2024. That phase added 100 beds, a third professional office building (now home to TIRR Memorial Hermann Pediatric Outpatient Rehabilitation–Katy), a parking garage, and an expanded Emergency Center. That Emergency Center doubled in size to 40,000 square feet, adding more treatment rooms, two new trauma rooms, an additional CT scanner, and upgraded equipment. Three new operating rooms were also added, with space for future surgical expansion. Phase II of that project—focused on renovations to the original Emergency Center—is expected to be completed in late summer 2025.

Vivien Bond, chief operating officer for Memorial Hermann Katy and manager of the 2024 expansion, emphasized that the upgraded units are key steps toward the hospital’s goal of achieving Level II Trauma designation. The campus is already home to the only Level III Trauma Center in Katy and is part of Memorial Hermann’s integrated trauma network—the only one of its kind in Greater Houston—which includes the Life Flight® air ambulance service.
