Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital Celebrates Expansion of Emergency Center and Surgical Department
Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital recently celebrated the upcoming opening of their expanded Emergency Center and Surgical Department with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and open house, according to a release. This landmark occasion signifies the completion of phase one of the expansion project.
"Today we celebrate and recognize the culmination of many months of planning and countless hours of preparation to make these units a reality," commented Jerry Ashworth, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Katy and Memorial Hermann Cypress hospitals. He highlighted Memorial Hermann Health System's dedication to creating healthier communities through personalized care, and stated that this expansion is an essential element in serving the patients of the Katy area and beyond.
The first phase of the project saw the Emergency Center double in size, reaching a total of 40,000 square feet. The department's enhancements include additional treatment rooms, two state-of-the-art trauma rooms, an added CT scanner, upgraded equipment, and more. The expansion also included the addition of three operating rooms and room for future expansion. Phase II, set for completion in late summer 2025, will comprise renovations to the existing Emergency Center.

Vivien Bond, the chief operating officer for Memorial Hermann Katy and the manager of the expansion project, noted how the expanded units are key components in the hospital's journey to becoming a Level II Trauma Center, as the hospital aims to meet the need for a higher level of trauma care in the community.
This expansion is part of Memorial Hermann Katy's ongoing $167 million endeavor that has significantly increased the hospital's capacity and specialty services. The project also includes a wide variety of additions and improvements such as a new parking garage, a relocation and expansion of the nursery, expansion of food services, and an overhaul of Women's Services, to name a few.
The project additionally brings new employment opportunities, both clinical and administrative, providing a boost to the local economy.
