A new chapter in West Katy living is beginning to take shape as Johnson Development officially unveils plans for Ricestead, the 20-acre community centerpiece of Grange in Katy. Set to break ground in 2026, Ricestead promises more than just amenities—it aims to create a deeply connected neighborhood rooted in shared experiences and a strong sense of place.

Located within the 1,130-acre Grange master-planned community at Morton Road and FM 2855, Ricestead is being designed as a walkable, all-seasons gathering hub where neighbors can meet for morning workouts, evening concerts, and everything in between.

“At Grange, we believe a community is more than homes and streets—it’s about connection, vibrancy, and shared moments,” states the Grange website. “That’s why Ricestead isn’t just another amenity; it’s the beating heart of everything we stand for.”

A Place to Live, Play, and Belong

At the center of Ricestead will be the Village Green—a vast lawn perfect for outdoor movie nights, seasonal markets, concerts, and casual family picnics. Paths will connect the green to a vibrant mix of amenities designed for all ages:

  • Harvest Hall Clubhouse: At 12,000 square feet, this central gathering space will offer community rooms, co-working space, and a fully equipped fitness center.

  • Resort-Style & Lap Pool: A spacious courtyard pool complex for both relaxation and exercise.

  • Pickleball Pavilion: Six covered courts to meet the area’s growing demand for America’s fastest-growing sport.

  • Playgrounds & Outdoor Games: Family-friendly zones designed to foster spontaneous play and lasting memories.

  • Curated Retail: Future shops and local eateries along Franz Road, reflecting Grange’s hometown charm.

  • Activated Lakes & Trails: Picturesque bridges, lakeside paths, and scenic greenspaces that will connect all corners of the community.

Ricestead builds on the early momentum of Grange, which began welcoming its first residents in 2025. The debut of Ricestead represents the next major phase of Johnson Development’s long-term vision for the community, which broke ground in the spring of 2024.

In a statement released earlier this year, the developer emphasized that “Grange offers the space, community, and quality of life that families are looking for—and we’re just getting started.”

Echoes of Small-Town Katy, Reimagined

The name "Grange" itself—a nod to rural agricultural estates—sets the tone for the neighborhood's identity: classic roots with a modern twist. Ricestead leans into that narrative with its blend of farmhouse-inspired architecture, tree-lined streets, and a design that encourages everyday interaction.

From early morning yoga on the event lawn to sunset pickleball games and lively evenings at the future retail promenade, Ricestead is meant to be more than the sum of its parts—it’s a place that feels like home.

What’s Next for Grange

The broader Grange community is expected to include approximately 2,400 homes upon completion. With respected builders such as Highland Homes, Chesmar Homes, David Weekley, Drees Custom Homes, Newmark Homes, Perry Homes, and Westin Homes, the neighborhood offers a diverse range of home styles and sizes.

Already under development is Henley Park, another major amenity featuring multiple age-specific playgrounds, shaded seating, and a large open lawn—further reinforcing Grange’s commitment to outdoor living and walkability.

Families are also looking ahead to the planned on-site Katy ISD schools, a major draw for those prioritizing high-quality education and convenience.

With construction on Ricestead expected to begin in 2026, the next phase of Grange is taking shape around a central hub designed for everyday gathering and connection.
