Grange Welcomes Its First Residents as Johnson Development Community Begins to Take Shape in Katy
A new chapter is beginning in west Katy as the first residents move into Grange, the long-anticipated master-planned community by Johnson Development located at Morton Road and FM 2855. The 1,130-acre development, which broke ground in March 2024 and began home sales earlier this year, has now officially welcomed its first homeowners.
Jacob and Danielle Moore are among those stepping into life in Grange. In a statement shared by Johnson Development, the couple expressed an early sense of belonging: “A close community, people we enjoy being around, and a feeling of home.” While still in its early phases, the community aims to foster exactly that — a place where residents connect easily, kids walk to future neighborhood schools, and families enjoy greenspace just steps from their front doors.
Grange, which is expected to feature approximately 2,400 homes once complete, brings together a mix of traditional single-family homes and townhomes by a team of well-known homebuilders including Highland Homes, Chesmar Homes, David Weekley, Drees Custom Homes, Newmark Homes, Perry Homes, and Westin Homes. Homesites currently begin in the low $600s.

The development pays homage to Katy’s rural roots — even its name, "Grange," refers to a farm or agricultural estate — while offering a modern take on master-planned living with nature-infused design and amenity-rich plans.
Among the key features already under development is Henley Park, a one-acre community hub that will include three age-specific playgrounds, a shaded pavilion, and a large open lawn for play and events. Slated for completion this year, the park is designed to become a central gathering point for residents, with trails linking it to surrounding homes.
The promise of on-site Katy ISD schools is another significant draw for future families. While those campuses are still forthcoming, their planned presence within the community has already garnered interest from homebuyers who prioritize walkability and access to quality public education.

Grange’s location — just north of I-10 and the Grand Parkway — places it in a sweet spot for many Katy area families seeking a balance of rural serenity and city accessibility. The area continues to grow, with Katy’s ongoing transformation into a regional hub for entertainment, retail, and lifestyle amenities.
While the vision for Grange is still unfolding, the first wave of move-ins marks a key milestone for Johnson Development and the broader Katy community. More amenities, model homes, and neighborhood features are on the horizon as the project progresses through its multi-phase buildout.
“Grange offers the space, community, and quality of life that families are looking for—and we’re just getting started,” Johnson Development stated.
