New VA Rosenberg Clinic Breaks Ground in Fort Bend County, Expanding Access to Care for Up to 20,000 Veterans

For thousands of veterans and military families across Fort Bend County, access to healthcare is set to become more convenient and comprehensive in the coming years.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has officially broken ground on a new outpatient clinic in Rosenberg, marking a major investment in veteran healthcare infrastructure as one of Texas' fastest-growing counties continues to welcome new residents, including many who have served in the armed forces.

Located at 25175 Southwest Freeway in Rosenberg, the new VA Rosenberg Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) represents a $30.7 million investment and will replace the current Richmond VA clinic. The facility is designed to significantly increase capacity while bringing a wider range of services closer to where veterans live.

Construction began in February 2026 and is expected to continue through at least mid-2027, with officials anticipating the clinic will open by the end of 2027.

Meeting a Growing Need in Fort Bend County

As Fort Bend County's population continues to grow, demand for veteran healthcare services has increased alongside it.

Houston VA officials say the region's existing clinics in Richmond and Sugar Land currently serve approximately 13,000 veterans combined and are operating at or near capacity. The new Rosenberg facility is being designed to accommodate up to 20,000 veterans and their families, helping address both current demand and future growth.

The new clinic will encompass approximately 38,000 square feet, providing nearly 20,000 additional square feet beyond the current Richmond clinic and creating room for expanded services and staffing.

"Houston VA is one of the fastest-growing VAs in the country and we are at or near capacity in several of our outpatient clinics," said Amir Farooqi, executive director of the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. "This new Rosenberg VA clinic is the latest step in a large expansion we have planned across southeast Texas; aimed at putting more VA care closer to where the Veterans who have earned it live."

For many veterans, especially those living in western and southwestern portions of Fort Bend County, the new location is expected to reduce travel burdens while improving access to specialized care.

Expanded Healthcare Services Under One Roof

When completed, the Rosenberg clinic will offer a broad range of outpatient healthcare services designed to meet the evolving needs of veterans throughout the region.

Planned services include:

  • Primary care
  • Mental health services
  • Radiology
  • Audiology
  • Optometry
  • Orthopedic care
  • Sleep medicine
  • Pulmonary care
  • Prosthetics
  • Physical therapy
  • Dedicated women's health services

The expanded footprint will also provide additional space for healthcare professionals and support staff, allowing the VA to serve more patients while reducing capacity constraints experienced at existing facilities.

A Milestone Years in the Making

The groundbreaking ceremony drew veterans, community leaders, VA employees, construction teams, and local officials who gathered to celebrate the project's official launch.

For many attendees, the event represented more than the start of construction. It marked a long-awaited commitment to ensuring veterans in Fort Bend County have access to healthcare services closer to home.

"When we turn the first shovel of dirt today, we are investing in the health, dignity, and future of Fort Bend County's Veterans," Farooqi said. "We look forward to the day we open these doors and say to every Veteran: welcome home, we've got you."

The project continues a broader effort by the VA Houston Healthcare System to expand access throughout Southeast Texas. In 2021, the VA opened a new outpatient clinic in Sugar Land to help meet growing demand in Fort Bend County. The Rosenberg clinic represents the next major step in that expansion strategy.

What Happens Next

With construction now underway, veterans and residents can expect to see significant progress at the Rosenberg site over the coming months.

Once completed, the facility is expected to become one of the region's most important healthcare resources for former service members, helping ensure Fort Bend County veterans have greater access to the care they have earned through their service.

For a county whose veteran population continues to grow alongside its residential and economic development, the new Rosenberg VA clinic represents an investment not only in healthcare infrastructure, but in the long-term well-being of the men and women who call Fort Bend County home.
