Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital Welcomes First Baby, Marks New Era in Advanced Maternal Care in Northwest Houston
In a heartwarming twist of fate on St. Patrick’s Day, Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital welcomed its very first baby—bringing a bit of luck and a lot of joy to the brand-new facility. Baby Tatum was born at the state-of-the-art Houston Methodist Childbirth Center at 5:07 p.m. on Monday, March 17, on the hospital’s official grand opening day.
Baby Tatum, born to proud parents Gervase and Terron Ware, weighed in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 19.59 inches long. Baby Tatum, the youngest of six siblings, is not only a special addition to his family, but also a symbolic first arrival at a hospital designed to redefine modern maternal and neonatal care.
The Houston Methodist Childbirth Center at Cypress features 21 private birthing suites, including eight neonatal ICU (NICU) rooms, providing advanced care and comfort for mothers and newborns alike.

A New Milestone in Houston Methodist’s Expansion
Opened on March 17, 2025, Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital is the ninth hospital in the Houston Methodist health system and a groundbreaking addition to the fast-growing U.S. 290 corridor. The hospital initially launched with 100 beds and is licensed for 276, with plans to expand to 400 beds in future phases. Spanning 600,000 square feet, the facility is a model of advanced automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and patient-focused innovation.
Designed as a "phygital" hospital, a term coined by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nicholas Desai to describe the seamless merging of physical and digital healthcare experiences, the facility incorporates voice-activated patient rooms with AI-powered fall detection, virtual nursing assistants and remote monitoring, robotic delivery systems and contactless food service, real-time location tracking for medical staff, and self-service kiosks for patient check-ins.
These features aim to enhance efficiency, security, and above all, the patient and provider experience. In the childbirth center, this technology works quietly in the background to support personalized, compassionate maternity care.
