Hope in Motion Fort Bend Walk Rallies Community for Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Support

January 29 2026

A wave of compassion and community support will surge through Brazos River Park on the morning of Saturday, May 9, 2026, as Fort Bend Mental Health hosts the inaugural Hope in Motion Fort Bend, a non-competitive 1.8-mile walk dedicated to raising awareness, hope, and funds for suicide prevention and mental health services in Fort Bend County.

Formerly known as Hike for Hope, this annual event has already left a lasting impact by fostering conversations around mental wellness and offering lifelines to those in need. Now reimagined under the new banner of Hope in Motion, the event marks a powerful moment for Fort Bend Mental Health (FBMH) — a bold, community-driven nonprofit focused on local mental health needs.

The walk will take place from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Brazos River Park, located at 18427 Southwest Freeway in Sugar Land, and promises to be more than just a morning stroll. It’s a rallying call to break down stigma, equip everyday people with resources, and promote a future where mental health is a priority — not a privilege.

A Local Cause with Deep Roots

Fort Bend Mental Health was founded with a singular mission: to promote mental wellness and prevent suicide in Fort Bend County by providing education, advocacy, and accessible resources. Rather than taking a statewide or national approach, FBMH is intentionally local — empowering parents, teachers, faith leaders, law enforcement, business owners, and friends to become Helpers in their own communities.

FBMH focuses on equipping these “Helpers” to recognize warning signs, offer compassionate support, and connect individuals to care before a crisis occurs.

According to the Texas Primary Care Consortium, the suicide rate in Fort Bend County in 2022 stood at 10.3 deaths per 100,000 residents. Nationally, suicide remains the 11th leading cause of death, with rates continuing to rise. Hope in Motion aims to reverse this trend — by uniting the community around awareness, connection, and prevention.

Funds That Stay Local — And Make a Difference

Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Fort Bend Mental Health’s educational and outreach initiatives. A portion of the funds will also be shared with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to support broader efforts in suicide prevention and research.

Hope in Motion is about more than showing up for a walk — it’s about showing up for each other. It’s a reminder that everyone has a role to play in supporting mental health, whether it’s checking in on a friend, listening without judgment, or knowing where to turn when someone needs help. Fort Bend Mental Health is working to build a community where people feel seen, supported, and never alone — and where everyday helpers are equipped to make a real difference, one conversation at a time.

Why Hope in Motion Matters

  • Suicide is preventable.
  • Mental health affects everyone.
  • Change starts with awareness — and continues with action.

FBMH envisions a world where no one suffers in silence, where mental health is free from stigma, and where care is accessible to all neighbors, regardless of background or income. Their grassroots approach ensures that every dollar, every volunteer hour, and every shared story makes a local impact.
