FM 1957 Improvements Near FM 471: Resurfacing Within Four Years, Widening Planned Long-Term
Drivers who rely on FM 1957 between FM 471 and the Medina/Bexar County line are getting a clearer picture of what’s ahead.
According to TxDOT Connect, a roadway resurfacing project (Control Section Job 210401016) is moving forward, with construction expected to begin within four years. The seal coat project spans approximately 4.978 miles and carries an estimated construction cost of $350,451. The current estimated let date is October 5, 2026, placing construction in fiscal year 2027.
For daily commuters and families traveling between Medina County and northwest San Antonio, this project is designed to preserve pavement and improve driving conditions along this key corridor.

At the same time, a separate widening project (Control Section Job 210401013) remains in the planning phase. This long-term effort would add new roadway lanes from FM 471 to CR 381, covering approximately 4.497 miles. TxDOT estimates the project cost at $50 million, with a projected let date of December 31, 2044.
While the widening project is still more than a decade away, its inclusion in long-range planning signals anticipated growth in the northwest Bexar County area.
