FBCSO Expanding Project Lifesaver Program

February 20 2023

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver Program is teaming up with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office to conduct training for the Katy Police Department. Officers will learn about the Project Lifesaver program and receive hands on training in efforts to assist the FBCSO and HCSO during searches for those who tend to wander.

Project Lifesaver is a free resource for individuals who suffer from cognitive disabilities such as Autism, Alzheimer’s or Dementia who are prone to wandering. The individual is registered with their local law enforcement agency and receive a bracelet. In the event they wander, law enforcement has their information ahead of time and is able to track the individual’s bracelet using the latest technology to bring them home safely.

This initiative comes after FBCSO and HCSO conducted training for the Katy Independent School District PD to become a search team. It's important for surrounding law enforcement agencies to work together during a search when time is of the essence.
