Katy ISD's Old Town Bistro Reopens Oct. 8 with Student-Crafted Comfort Food at Miller Career & Technology Center
There’s something special cooking at the Old Town Bistro—and it’s not just what’s on the plate.
Starting October 8, 2025, the bistro at Miller Career & Technology Center (MCTC) will reopen to the public, serving up scratch-made meals every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the month. The restaurant, located at 1734 Katyland Drive in Katy, is run entirely by high school culinary students in Katy ISD’s practicum program.
And yes, it’s as delicious as it is inspiring.
Student-Run, Skill-Building, and Seriously Tasty
Behind every dish is a student gaining real-world experience—rotating through stations like line cook, host, server, and even supervisor. It’s part of a hands-on culinary program designed to prepare students for careers in hospitality, restaurant ownership, or further culinary education.
From basic knife skills to plate presentation, students at MCTC learn it all. By their senior year, they’re running the show at Old Town Bistro—and doing it with heart, hustle, and an eye toward the future.

“The bistro gives our students a chance to take everything they’ve learned and bring it to life,” said program coordinator Ruth Delaney. “They’re not just cooking—they’re creating an experience.”
The program offers a path to industry certifications like ServeSafe® Manager and opens doors to careers as chefs, nutritionists, health coaches, and more.
