Katy Corner Project Complete as City Relocates Iconic Bronze Geese Sculpture to City of Katy Historic Town Square
A new chapter has taken flight in Historic Downtown Katy.
As of this week, the long-anticipated Katy Corner project—featuring the majestic bronze geese sculpture known as “Geese in Flight”—is officially complete. Positioned prominently at the corner of Avenue C and 2nd Street, right across from City Hall, this final touch marks the completion of a decade-long revitalization effort aimed at honoring Katy’s past while building toward a shared future.
The City of Katy announced the milestone with heartfelt words on social media: “What makes a hometown special isn’t just the streets we walk or the buildings we see—it’s the pride we share, the history we honor, and the future we build together.”
That sentiment now stands in bronze form, gleaming under evening lights, in the heart of Katy’s Historic Town Square.
A Flight Years in the Making
The bronze geese sculpture, created by Official Texas State Sculptor Edd Hayes, completes a trilogy of iconic public art installations across Katy. The original geese grouping, The Landing, was installed in 2007 near Katy Mills Boulevard and Highway 90. The Flight, with installations at I-10 and Pin Oak and at I-10 and Katy Fort Bend Road, followed in 2015.
The newest sculpture’s journey began in March 2024, when the City Council authorized $62,000 to LJA Engineering to begin design plans for Katy Corner in collaboration with Keep Katy Beautiful, a long-standing organization committed to community enhancement since its creation in 1993 by Mayor Skip Conner.
The relocation of the geese was necessitated by the planned expansion of the Pin Oak Road overpass by the Texas Department of Transportation, but rather than seeing it as a setback, the city embraced the opportunity to create a new destination within the Town Square.

A Symbol of Community Spirit
Everything from the font on the signage to the irrigation and electrical plans was designed with care—and with the people of Katy in mind.
“This is home,” read a recent city Facebook post celebrating the sculpture’s installation, “and it’s only getting better.”
Indeed, Katy Corner is more than a photo opportunity. It’s a visual anchor for a growing and vibrant community—one that continues to welcome new businesses, host local events, and preserve its history.
The revitalization of the Historic Town Square over the past several years has brought a new Civic Center, a redesigned Harvest Plaza, expansive mural walls celebrating Katy’s heritage, a refreshed Visitor Center, and now Katy Corner—a shining example of civic pride.
Keep Katy Beautiful: A Legacy in Bloom
The Katy Corner project continues the impactful work of Keep Katy Beautiful, a Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful affiliate. Through local grants, private donations, and the Governor’s Community Achievement Award, the organization has supported many of Katy’s most cherished beautification projects, from the landscaping around the Depot and Caboose to the installation of vintage streetlights and the creation of the Katy City Park Arboretum.
The bronze geese sculptures have become a signature of that legacy.

Meet the Artist: Edd Hayes
Known for capturing the spirit of Texas in bronze, Edd Hayes has created over 60 large-scale public and private sculptures across the nation. His career began in 1989 with a commission for the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, and he has since been honored by the Texas Legislature as the Official Texas State Sculptor.
Hayes is revered for works such as Wild and Free at the Houston Astrodome and The Champ in Colorado. His ability to bring motion, emotion, and meaning to bronze has made his works beloved public symbols—particularly in Katy, where his geese now soar permanently above the Town Square.
Visit Katy Corner
Community members are encouraged to stop by the Historic Town Square to see the Geese in Flight sculpture lit up in the evenings. The new site provides the perfect backdrop for gatherings, photos, or simply taking a moment to reflect on the spirit of a small town with a big heart.
With the completion of Katy Corner, Historic Downtown Katy stands proudly—both as a reminder of where the city has been and a vision of where it’s going.
Welcome home, Katy.
