The City of Katy is turning the page on a new chapter of hospitality, history, and hands-on fun with the Grand Opening of its newly renovated Visitor’s Center on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 5:00 PM — and everyone’s invited.
Located at 5718 2nd Street in the heart of Katy’s Historic Town Square, the new center has been completely reimagined to create a welcoming, interactive space for both visitors and locals. Once a modest fire station, the building now tells Katy’s story in an entirely new way — and the best part? It was funded entirely through a Convention & Tourism Board grant, with zero cost to taxpayers.
Big Tech, Bigger Welcome
Step inside and the first thing you’ll notice is a massive 136-inch interactive touchscreen — one of the largest of its kind in the area. This Google-powered, dynamic display lets guests explore everything Katy has to offer, from walking trails and community events to local schools, restaurants, and attractions. Whether you’re new in town or just looking for something fun to do this weekend, it’s all at your fingertips.
A friendly staff member will be at the reception desk to greet you, and there are brochure racks, cozy seating areas, and city maps available to help you get your bearings and plan your next adventure.

A Kids’ Room That Makes History Fun
But for many families, the real magic will be found in the interactive children’s room — a vibrant, hands-on space designed to teach kids about Katy’s roots through colorful, engaging displays. Children are invited to touch, lift, spin, and explore exhibits that highlight three key moments in the city’s development, including the arrival of the railroad, the rise of rice farming, and the boom of the oil industry.
The entire room is designed with movement and imagination in mind, including a custom-printed floor that mimics the streets of Katy in a bright, playful layout. It’s part museum, part playground — and entirely unforgettable.
