Explore Myths and Legends with Polynesian Storyteller Performance at the Fort Bend County Libraries’ Book Festival

October 21 2024

On Saturday, November 16, the Fort Bend County Libraries will come alive with excitement during their Annual Book Festival from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the George Memorial Library in Richmond. This free event promises a delightful day for book lovers and families alike!

With the theme “Myths & Legends,” the festival will showcase an enchanting “Polynesian Storytelling” performance at 11:00 am and 12:00 noon in the Jodie E. Stavinoha Amphitheater. Attendees will be captivated by the vibrant dances from Malia’s Hula Hut, featuring traditional hula, Tahitian dance, the Haka, and even fire-knife dancing from Samoa.

The Book Festival has something for everyone. Aspiring writers of all ages can participate in interactive workshops designed to inspire creativity and help them find their unique voices.

Young visitors will have a blast at the Kids’ Book Carnival, filled with games and activities running from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Bohachevsky Gallery—a perfect opportunity for young imaginations to soar.

For those who love puzzles, there’s the “Mythic Mayhem Escape Room,” where teams of up to 8 can embark on a thrilling adventure from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Participants will need to solve puzzles and navigate through mythical worlds—can they find their way back to the present?

Throughout the day, local authors will be available for a meet-and-greet in the lobby. Festival-goers can connect with writers like Tabitha Voight and Stacey Swann, ask questions, get autographs, and purchase signed copies of their books.

Stacey Swann will also deliver the keynote address from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Participants in the “Community Reads” initiative, who read Olympus, Texas, will have the chance to win exciting prizes in a raffle at 1:00 pm.

Food trucks will be on-site, offering delicious options for lunch, allowing visitors to enjoy a meal while soaking in the festive atmosphere and live performances.

The event is supported by the Friends of the George Memorial Library, who will host a Fall Book Sale at the entrance. Guests can browse a fantastic selection of books, with all proceeds supporting library programs and events. (Please note: cash and checks only, as credit cards cannot be accepted.)

The Fort Bend County Libraries’ Annual Book Festival is a perfect outing for families and individuals eager to explore literature and culture. For more details, interested attendees can visit the Fort Bend County Libraries’ website or call the Communications Office at 281-633-4734
