Elgin’s Juneteenth Celebration Returns for 27th Anniversary With Parade, Music, Pageant and Community Events
For many families across Elgin and surrounding communities like Homestead Estates, Juneteenth is more than a date on the calendar. It is a celebration rooted in remembrance, resilience, freedom and togetherness — and this year, the Elgin Juneteenth Organization is preparing to mark that legacy with its 27th anniversary celebration.
The multi-day Juneteenth festivities will take place June 11-13, 2026, featuring family-friendly events, live entertainment, food vendors, arts and crafts, a children’s pageant, a community street dance and the annual grand parade through Elgin.
Located just minutes from Homestead Estates, the celebration gives local residents an opportunity to participate in one of the region’s longstanding Juneteenth traditions while supporting community organizations, local businesses and cultural programming in Bastrop County.
A Community Tradition With Deep Roots
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Today, communities across Texas continue to honor the occasion through celebrations that blend education, culture, music, food and fellowship.
In Elgin, the annual Juneteenth celebration has grown into a multi-generational community tradition that brings residents together while highlighting local history and Black cultural heritage.
This year’s events are organized by the Elgin Juneteenth Organization and will center around Veterans Memorial Park, located at 109 Depot Street in Elgin.
Children’s Pageant Opens Celebration Week
The festivities begin Thursday, June 11, with the Elgin Juneteenth Children’s Pageant from 6 to 8 p.m.
The event is designed to celebrate confidence, culture and youth leadership while giving children an opportunity to showcase talent, personality and community pride in a supportive environment. According to event organizers, the Children's Pageant aims to highlight talent, confidence and cultural pride. Open to children ages 3 through 11 years old, eligible participants must be a City of Elgin or Bastrop County resident. Note that the registration fee is $20.
Organizers are also seeking participants and volunteers for the event. Residents interested in getting involved can contact Taneia Cruz at 512-961-9059 or by email at taneiacruz@gmail.com.

The evening event will feature music, dancing, food vendors, arts and crafts and community fellowship under the summer night sky. Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring lawn chairs and enjoy an evening centered around connection and celebration.
