City of Katy Debuts New Trolley, Honoring Its Historic Railroad Legacy
The City of Katy has announced the arrival of a brand-new trolley, a nostalgic yet modern addition to its historic downtown district. This initiative, made possible through a generous grant from the Convention/Tourism Board, will enhance the experience of both residents and visitors by providing convenient transportation to some of the city’s most cherished landmarks.
A Nod to Katy’s Railroad Heritage
The introduction of the trolley is a fitting tribute to Katy’s deep-rooted railroad history. Originally established as a railroad town in the late 1800s, Katy was a key stop along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) Railroad, commonly known as the "K-T Railroad," from which the city derived its name. The railroad played a pivotal role in the city's development, fostering economic growth and community expansion. To this day, Katy takes great pride in preserving its railroad legacy, evident in landmarks such as the Katy Heritage Society’s historical homes and the Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum.
