Church’s Texas Chicken Plans New $500,000 Restaurant on Fry Road in Katy: What Williamsburg Settlement Residents Should Know

Williamsburg Settlement  /   Katy / Fulshear
October 12 2026

A familiar fried chicken restaurant could be getting a fresh start along Fry Road in Katy.

Construction plans filed for Church’s Chicken at 2305 Fry Rd, Katy, TX 77449 call for a new 1,423-square-foot, quick-service restaurant with a drive-thru, replacing a location currently listed as permanently closed. For residents of Williamsburg Settlement, the project could bring another convenient option for family dinners, takeout and quick meals close to home.

What’s Planned for the Church’s Chicken Location on Fry Road?

According to the project filing, the estimated $500,000 new construction project is scheduled to begin January 20, 2027, with completion anticipated July 20, 2027. The scope describes ground-up construction of a quick-service restaurant with drive-thru service in Harris County. While the filing provides a preliminary construction timeline, an official reopening date has not been announced. The plans also do not specify whether the existing building will be demolished or provide details about the restaurant's future operator.

A Texas Fried Chicken Favorite With Roots Dating Back to 1952

Now known as Church’s Texas Chicken, the restaurant chain got its start in San Antonio in 1952, when George W. Church Sr. opened the first Church’s Fried Chicken To-Go across from the Alamo. What began as a small walk-up restaurant has grown into an international brand with restaurants across the United States and in approximately 25 countries. The chain is known for its hand-battered original and spicy fried chicken, chicken tenders, sandwiches, family meals and signature Honey-Butter Biscuits, along with sides such as mashed potatoes with gravy and baked macaroni and cheese.

For Katy-area customers, Church’s is already a familiar name. The company's official restaurant directory currently lists two Katy locations, at 6201 N. Fry Road and 1410 W. Grand Parkway, in addition to dozens of restaurants throughout the greater Houston area.

The planned Fry Road project would give Williamsburg Settlement residents another nearby option for the brand's fried chicken and family meals, while putting a currently closed restaurant property back into use.

What Happens Next for the Fry Road Restaurant?

If construction proceeds as scheduled, the new Church’s Texas Chicken building could be completed by summer 2027, although restaurant openings can take additional time following construction. For Williamsburg Settlement residents who regularly travel Fry Road, the project is one to watch as plans move forward.
