November 05 2026

For veterans living in Katy and Fulshear, a simple thank-you, a shared meal or seeing their name recognized in their hometown can carry special meaning. This November, local organizations are inviting residents to take part in Veterans Day events that bring military families, neighbors and community leaders together to recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, but commemorations in the Katy and Fulshear areas will begin several days earlier and continue through the following weekend. Scheduled activities include a Veterans Day breakfast at Weston Lakes Country Club in Fulshear, a community breakfast hosted by American Legion Post 164 and the Katy Elks, and the City of Katy's second annual Hometown Heroes Banner Dedication.

Whether residents have a loved one who served, are veterans themselves or simply want to show appreciation for the men and women who have worn the uniform, these local gatherings offer meaningful ways to participate in Veterans Day close to home.

Veterans Day Breakfast at Weston Lakes Country Club | Friday, November 6

The Brazos River Rotary Club and Fulshear-Simonton Lions Club are joining together to host a Veterans Day Breakfast at Weston Lakes Country Club, inviting the community to begin the holiday observance by sharing a meal with local military veterans.

The breakfast will take place Friday, November 6, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at 5646 Weston Drive, Fulshear, TX 77441. Veterans and their spouses will receive complimentary breakfast, while admission for other attendees is $10.

The gathering recognizes both current and former members of the U.S. military, giving attendees an opportunity to visit with veterans and thank them for their service. For residents of Fulshear, Weston Lakes, Simonton and surrounding Fort Bend County neighborhoods, it is a chance to participate in a local tradition of service and appreciation.

Both sponsoring organizations are part of a broader network of civic clubs that bring residents together through volunteer work, charitable initiatives and community partnerships. By hosting the breakfast together, the clubs are helping make Veterans Day recognition a shared community occasion.

Breakfast with a Veteran at Katy Elks Lodge | Saturday, November 7

Katy residents can start their Saturday morning with good food and an opportunity to get to know local veterans during Breakfast with a Veteran, hosted through American Legion Post 164 and the Katy Elks.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 7, from 7 to 10 a.m., the all-you-can-eat breakfast will take place at Katy Elks Lodge #2628, located at 1050 Katy Fort Bend Road.

Unlike some Veterans Day ceremonies that focus on formal presentations, this event offers a more casual setting where veterans and community members can sit down together, share stories and enjoy a meal.

Breakfast with a Veteran is a recurring monthly gathering, but its November date falls just days before Veterans Day, providing another opportunity for Katy families to recognize military service.

American Legion Post 164, formally known as the Jonathan D. Rozier Katy Post 164, is part of the American Legion's nationwide network of veterans organizations. Along with supporting veterans, American Legion posts participate in community service, patriotic observances and programs connecting military families with their neighbors.

For residents who would like to meet veterans in their community or introduce their children to the importance of recognizing military service, the breakfast offers a welcoming place to begin.

2nd Annual Hometown Heroes Banner Dedication | Saturday, November 14

A week after the community breakfast, Katy will continue its Veterans Day recognition with a ceremony that gives military service a lasting presence along one of the city's streets.

The City of Katy and Katy Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 2nd Annual Hometown Heroes Banner Dedication on Saturday, November 14, unveiling 12 new banners along George Bush Drive recognizing individuals who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The ceremony is scheduled for the morning of November 14, with the detailed event listing indicating 8 to 9:30 a.m. Attendees are instructed to gather at the VFW Hall at 6202 George Bush Drive before taking a short community walk to view the newly installed banners.

The event will include an Honor Guard representing American Legion Post 164 and VFW Post 9182. Following the banner viewing, participants will return to the VFW Hall for coffee, light breakfast refreshments and time to visit with fellow attendees.

The Hometown Heroes program is a partnership between the City of Katy and the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, giving residents an opportunity to nominate and recognize military service members with personal connections to the community.

For the veterans and families represented on the banners, the tribute offers recognition that extends beyond a single ceremony. As people travel along George Bush Drive, the banners will serve as visible reminders of the local men and women whose military service is part of Katy's history.

The dedication also gives families and friends an opportunity to participate in honoring the individuals featured in this year's program.

Organizers encourage attendees to wear comfortable shoes for the short walk along George Bush Drive. Parking will be available at or near the VFW Hall.

More information is available through the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce official event listing.

Why Americans Celebrate Veterans Day on November 11

Veterans Day is observed every year on November 11 to honor the men and women who have served in the United States military, recognizing their service during both wartime and peacetime.

The holiday dates back to the end of World War I, when an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations took effect on November 11, 1918. Fighting ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, a moment that became an important symbol of peace following years of devastating conflict.

President Woodrow Wilson first commemorated Armistice Day in 1919, and the observance became a federal holiday in 1938. In 1954, following World War II and the Korean War, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation renaming the holiday Veterans Day so that it would honor Americans who served in all wars.

While Memorial Day specifically honors military personnel who died while serving their country, Veterans Day recognizes all who have served, including living veterans who have returned to civilian life.

For Katy and Fulshear families, that includes neighbors, coworkers, teachers, business owners, parents and grandparents whose years of military service may not be widely known outside their immediate circles.

Local Veterans Day breakfasts, recognition ceremonies and public tributes offer opportunities to learn about those experiences and express appreciation in person.

Three Ways to Honor Veterans in Katy and Fulshear This November

For residents planning to attend one of this year's local Veterans Day events, each gathering offers a different experience. The Weston Lakes breakfast focuses on thanking veterans and their spouses, Katy's Breakfast with a Veteran creates opportunities for conversation, and the Hometown Heroes dedication recognizes military service through a public tribute that residents can see long after the ceremony concludes.

Residents are encouraged to check event details with organizers before attending, particularly for the November 14 Hometown Heroes dedication, which has conflicting information in its published listings.

For military families, these gatherings offer time to reconnect with fellow veterans and see their service recognized by the community. For other residents, they provide an opportunity to listen, learn and offer a personal thank-you.

As Katy and Fulshear continue to welcome new families, traditions like these help preserve an important part of local history while introducing younger generations to the meaning of Veterans Day. Sometimes that recognition comes through a formal ceremony, and sometimes it begins with a conversation across the breakfast table.
