More Than 1,500 Dogs and Cats Looking for Homes at Houston’s Huge Pet Adoption Event, With Free Adoptions Sunday
For Houston-area families who have been thinking about adopting a dog or cat, this weekend offers an opportunity to meet hundreds of animals looking for homes, all in one place. More than 1,500 adoptable pets are expected at Reliant Arena on November 7 and 8, 2026, as shelters and rescue organizations from across Texas come together for one of the region's largest pet adoption events.
Hosted by nonprofit Petco Love, the Jump Into Joy Pet Adoption Event will bring dogs, cats, puppies and kittens to Houston for two days of adoptions, with a special incentive for families ready to welcome a new companion. Adoption fees will be $50 on Saturday, November 7, and completely waived on Sunday, November 8.
Among the participating organizations are Harris County Pets, Fort Bend County Animal Services and Montgomery County Animal Services, three agencies serving communities throughout the greater Houston area. Their involvement gives residents from Katy, Cypress, Spring, Tomball, The Woodlands, Conroe, Sugar Land, Richmond and surrounding neighborhoods an opportunity to support the shelters caring for animals in their own communities.
Petco Love Brings Jump Into Joy Pet Adoption Event to Houston's Reliant Arena
The two-day adoption event will take place at Reliant Arena, located at 1 NRG Parkway in Houston's NRG Park complex, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. General admission is free, and visitors are welcome to attend whether they are actively looking to adopt or simply interested in learning more about pet adoption.
The event is presented by Petco Love, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of pets and the people who love them. Through partnerships with animal shelters, rescue organizations and community programs, Petco Love works to increase pet adoptions, support animal welfare initiatives and help reunite lost pets with their families.
Houston's Jump Into Joy event is part of that broader mission, bringing participating animal welfare organizations together in a setting where prospective adopters can meet pets from multiple shelters without traveling to each facility individually.
This year's event also features a collaboration with The Cat in the Hat, bringing a playful, family-friendly theme to the adoption experience. Visitors can expect themed photo opportunities, special giveaways and activities celebrating the connection between people and their pets.
While the weekend includes entertainment and opportunities for families to enjoy time together, the main purpose is helping shelter animals find permanent homes.
Harris County Pets, Fort Bend County Animal Services and Montgomery County Animal Services Among Participating Shelters
For residents across the Houston suburbs, several of the participating shelters are organizations that provide animal care and adoption services close to home.
Harris County Pets, operated by Harris County Veterinary Public Health Division, serves unincorporated Harris County, including communities in the Cypress, Spring, Katy and Tomball areas. The agency provides animal sheltering, adoption services, veterinary public health programs and other services related to animal welfare and public safety.
Its participation in Jump Into Joy creates another opportunity for animals in its care to meet prospective adopters, including families who may not have previously visited the county shelter.
Fort Bend County Animal Services serves residents in unincorporated Fort Bend County, providing sheltering, adoption and animal control services. Its work directly affects communities throughout the growing Fort Bend region, including areas near Richmond, Rosenberg, Sugar Land, Fulshear and Katy.
For families in these communities, adopting through the event offers an opportunity to give a home to an animal while supporting the county shelter responsible for caring for pets in need.
Montgomery County Animal Services serves Montgomery County, including communities in and around Conroe, Magnolia, Montgomery, Spring and The Woodlands. The county shelter provides animal care, adoption services and resources intended to help animals find appropriate homes.
By participating in the Houston event, Montgomery County Animal Services will have an additional opportunity to connect adoptable pets with families from throughout the region.
These three agencies are part of a much larger group of shelters and rescue organizations working toward the same goal. Each adoption can help create additional capacity for shelters to care for other animals that need assistance, although the specific impact varies by organization.
More Than 20 Texas Animal Shelters and Rescue Organizations Participating
Petco Love has identified 22 participating animal welfare organizations for the Houston Jump Into Joy event, representing communities across greater Houston and other parts of Texas.
In addition to Harris County Pets, Fort Bend County Animal Services and Montgomery County Animal Services, participating organizations include Aggieland Humane Society, BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions, Baytown Animal Services, City of Pearland, City of South Houston, Friendswood Animal Control, Galveston Island Humane Society, Galveston County Animal Resource Center, Grimes County Animal Rescue, Hill Country Humane Society, Houston Humane Society, Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area, Mont Belvieu Animal Shelter, Palm Valley Animal Society, Pasadena Animal Shelter, Rosenberg Animal Control & Shelter, San Antonio ACS, SPCA Brazoria County and SPCA of Polk County.
The participation of organizations from Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Galveston, Brazoria and other Texas counties reflects the regional nature of animal sheltering and adoption efforts.
For prospective pet owners, having so many organizations represented at one event means a wider selection of animals with different ages, sizes, personalities and needs. Someone looking for an energetic puppy may find several potential matches, while another family may discover that an older, calmer dog or an adult cat is a better fit for their household.
Free Pet Adoptions Sunday, November 8: What Families Should Know
One of the biggest incentives for prospective adopters is the event's reduced adoption fees, including a full day of free pet adoptions.
Saturday, November 7, 2026
- $50 adoption fee
- General admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early-entry Fast Pass available from 9 to 10 a.m. for $100.
Sunday, November 8, 2026
- Free pet adoptions
- General admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adoption fees are waived, but normal screening and approval requirements still apply.
For those hoping to get an early start on Saturday, Petco Love is offering a Fast Pass that provides admission from 9 to 10 a.m., one hour before general entry begins. The Fast Pass costs $100 and is intended for visitors who want additional time to meet available animals before the larger crowds arrive.
Pets cannot be placed on hold, so visitors should be prepared to make adoption decisions during the event.
Although Sunday adoptions are free, adopting a pet still involves an application and approval process. Petco Love encourages visitors to take time getting to know an animal before deciding whether it is a good match.
Designated meet-and-greet stations will allow prospective adopters to interact with pets before completing the necessary paperwork.
According to the event organizers, animals will have age-appropriate vaccinations and will generally be spayed or neutered and microchipped unless otherwise noted.
What to Bring When Adopting a Dog or Cat at Jump Into Joy
Anyone planning to adopt should arrive prepared to complete the process and safely transport a new pet home.
Adopters must be at least 18 years old and present a valid photo ID along with proof of address. Adoption paperwork must be completed at the event and reviewed before an adoption can be approved.
Those hoping to adopt a cat should bring an appropriate pet carrier. Visitors interested in adopting a dog should bring a leash and collar.
Families may also want to discuss their expectations before arriving, including the time available for exercise and training, the needs of other pets already in the household and the ongoing costs of veterinary care, food and supplies.
A pet adoption can be an exciting experience, especially for children, but finding the right match matters more than making a quick decision. The opportunity to meet animals in person and speak with participating shelter representatives can help families better understand what a particular pet may need.
Free Parking Available at Reliant Arena for Houston Pet Adoption Event
Petco Love has also arranged free parking opportunities for visitors attending the event at NRG Park.
Guests should enter through Gate 5 at 1770 South Loop West, where they will be directed to the Maroon Lot.
Parking is free for visitors who enter Gate 5 before noon. Those arriving after noon must present an electronic parking pass to receive free parking.
The parking pass and Saturday Fast Pass information are available through the event's official website.
Why Large Adoption Events Matter for Houston-Area Animal Shelters
Animal shelters across the greater Houston area care for dogs and cats that arrive for a variety of reasons, including stray animal intake, owner surrenders and other circumstances that leave pets without permanent homes.
Finding appropriate adopters is an ongoing part of that work, particularly for publicly operated shelters that must also respond to animal welfare and public safety needs in their jurisdictions.
Large-scale adoption events such as Jump Into Joy provide an additional way to introduce animals to potential owners beyond the shelters' regular adoption programs.
For Harris County Pets, Fort Bend County Animal Services and Montgomery County Animal Services, participation also offers a chance to reach families throughout the region who might otherwise be unfamiliar with their local shelter's services.
And for residents who have considered adopting but have not yet found the right pet, the weekend provides a chance to explore many options in one location.
The event is also a reminder that adoption opportunities continue year-round at local animal shelters. Families who do not find a suitable match during Jump Into Joy can still visit participating organizations afterward to meet other available animals, learn about fostering or explore ways to volunteer.
A Weekend That Could Change Thousands of Lives, Both Human and Four-Legged
Behind every animal available for adoption is an opportunity for a new beginning. Some have been waiting for families at local shelters, while others may be meeting prospective owners for the first time. Each has its own personality, history and needs, and finding the right home can make a lasting difference.
For Houston-area residents, Jump Into Joy is an opportunity to support the animal welfare organizations that care for pets throughout their communities. Whether someone leaves with a new companion, learns more about fostering or simply discovers how to get involved with a local shelter, that connection can continue well beyond the weekend.
