CenterPoint Energy Maintains Power for 99% of Customers During Winter Storm Enzo, Returns to Normal Operations

January 22 2025

CenterPoint Energy announced today that more than 99% of its Greater Houston area customers maintained normal electric service during Winter Storm Enzo, which brought extreme cold and icy conditions to Texas. The company has now deactivated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and returned to normal business operations as of noon Wednesday.

“With Winter Storm Enzo now behind us, we want to again thank all our customers for staying off the roads and allowing our dedicated crews to respond safely and effectively when scattered outages occurred," said Darin Carroll, Senior Vice President of CenterPoint's Electric Business. "We're also grateful to those crew members who worked in extreme conditions to provide our customers the service they expect and deserve. The actions we took to get ready for this winter storm season helped mitigate the impacts of Enzo on our customers, and our entire CenterPoint team remains committed to further strengthening the resiliency of our system."

CenterPoint Energy's Winter Storm Enzo Response

To prepare for and respond to the impacts of Winter Storm Enzo, CenterPoint took several key actions, including:

  • Deploying more than 3,000 frontline workers: CenterPoint’s crews, contractors, and 1,200 mutual aid workers were positioned strategically across the Greater Houston area to address potential outages quickly. On Tuesday, mutual aid workers were released to return to their home states.

  • Supporting warming centers: The company deployed four small temporary generators to provide power to local warming centers during sub-freezing temperatures.

  • Communicating with customers: CenterPoint provided timely safety and preparedness updates through press briefings, social media, direct outreach, and its customer service platforms.

  • Assisting critical care customers: The utility contacted critical care and chronic condition residential electric customers via email, phone, and text to provide information and updates.

Despite isolated outages, the utility company worked to restore power quickly and efficiently, minimizing disruptions for its customers.
