Discover How CenterPoint Energy’s Power Alerts Keep Houston Informed During Storms

January 21 2025

As Winter Storm Enzo blanketed the Greater Houston area with several inches of snow and brought single-digit wind chills, thousands of residents experienced power outages. CenterPoint Energy, the region's primary electricity provider, reported that 18,700 customers had their power restored since the storm began, with 2,800 customers still without power as of Tuesday morning.

While CenterPoint’s teams, including 3,000 frontline workers and mutual aid personnel, worked tirelessly to restore service, the company's Power Alert Service proved to be an essential resource for keeping customers informed about outages and restoration efforts.

In addition to the alert system, CenterPoint’s enhanced, cloud-based Outage Tracker offers a visual representation of outages by county, city, and zip code, available in both English and Spanish. This tool allows users to stay informed about local and regional power conditions during severe weather.

Signing up for the Power Alert Service is simple and helps customers stay prepared and informed during events like Winter Storm Enzo, when extreme cold and icy conditions increase the likelihood of power disruptions.

CenterPoint’s Response to Winter Storm Enzo

As the storm brought unprecedented challenges to the Greater Houston area, CenterPoint Energy activated its Emergency Operations Center and coordinated efforts with state and local agencies to ensure a rapid and organized response. The company deployed four temporary generation units to power local warming centers and maintained direct communication with critical care and chronic condition customers to ensure their safety.

"Our teams remain focused on restoring power safely and efficiently during this historic winter weather event," said Darin Carroll, Senior Vice President of CenterPoint’s Electric Business. "We appreciate our customers' patience and cooperation in staying off the roads, which helps our crews work safely and effectively."
