Williamsburg Settlement Recycling Refresh: What to Put in the Bin—and What to Keep Out

August 21 2025

If it’s been a while since you checked the recycling rules or wondered whether that greasy pizza box belongs in the blue bin—this one’s for you. Texas Pride Disposal, the trash and recycling service provider for Williamsburg Settlement, provides twice-weekly trash collection and weekly recycling. But as recycling industry challenges grow, proper sorting matters more than ever.

What Not to Recycle: Reduce Contamination

The recycling industry is facing financial strain, in part due to contamination—non-recyclable or dirty items getting tossed into recycling bins.

DO NOT Recycle These:
  • Plastic bags of any kind (yes, even grocery bags!)
  • Greasy pizza boxes or food-soiled containers
  • Paper towels, facial tissue, shredded paper
  • Coat hangers, mirrors, ceramics, light bulbs

REMEMBER: When in doubt—throw it out. Uncertain items should go in the trash, not the recycle bin.

Avoiding contamination helps lower the community surcharge—and keeps the recycling stream usable.

Trash Collection Tips

  • Place trash near your garage or side-yard gate on pickup days.
  • Up to 5 bags of yard waste are accepted per service day.
  • Heavy Trash & Branches: Place curbside on either pickup day. Limitations apply.
  • Refrigerators/Freezers: Must be drained of Freon and accompanied by a service receipt before curbside pickup.
Not Accepted in Regular Trash:
  • Construction debris (sheetrock, bricks, two-by-fours, cabinets)
  • Paints, concrete, or remodeling waste

Every Clean Bin Makes a Difference

According to the EPA, recycling in the U.S. saved over 190 million metric tons of carbon emissions in a single year—that’s like removing 42 million cars from the road. Locally, proper recycling reduces landfill overflow, lowers municipal costs, and conserves natural resources for future generations.

By following the guidelines, Williamsburg Settlement residents play an important role in this cycle of sustainability. And with community cooperation, Williamsburg Settlement can reduce recycling surcharges and keep waste services running smoothly. Your efforts matter.

Thank you for doing your part to keep your neighborhood clean and environmentally responsible!
