Tompkins and Katy High Schools Earn State Awards in FFA Competition

December 19 2024

Students from Tompkins and Katy high schools recently brought home top honors from the State Leadership Development Event (LDE) held at Sam Houston State University earlier this month. Tompkins High School earned first place in the Greenhand FFA Quiz, while Katy High School claimed the top spot in the Chapter Agricultural Quiz.

“We are so proud of Katy and Tompkins for earning first place in their respective competitions,” said Jeannie Knierim, Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Katy ISD. “Congratulations to all our students who placed and participated in the state competition. Their achievements highlight the dedication and hard work of the students and their coaches.”

The Tompkins FFA chapter, which was founded in 2013, is part of the school's Agricultural Science program. As a co-curricular organization, the chapter provides students with opportunities to participate in various activities throughout the year, ranging from leadership development events to community service. Membership is available to all students enrolled in agricultural science courses at Tompkins High School, allowing them to be involved in a variety of events, including quizzes, public speaking, and other leadership-focused competitions.

This year’s Greenhand FFA Quiz victory marks another achievement for the Tompkins FFA students, who continue to demonstrate their commitment to both academic success and leadership development.

In addition to the top awards earned by Tompkins and Katy High Schools, other Katy ISD FFA chapters also placed in several events. Cinco Ranch High School earned multiple awards, including 2nd place in Greenhand Spanish Creed Speaking, 3rd place in Senior Chapter Conducting, and 5th place in Greenhand Creed Speaking and Greenhand Chapter Conducting. Katy High School also earned 3rd place in Greenhand Chapter Conducting and 5th place in Agricultural Advocacy. Morton Ranch High School placed 3rd in Greenhand Spanish Creed Speaking.

These results reflect the strong presence of FFA programs across Katy ISD and the continued success of the district’s students in agricultural education. For more information about Tompkins FFA, visit Tompkins FFA Website.
