For residents across The Colonies, an October evening at the neighborhood center will offer something increasingly valuable: a chance to put names to familiar faces, meet the first responders who serve the area and spend a few relaxed hours connecting with the people who call the community home.

Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 102 is sponsoring National Night Out 2026 on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Colonies Neighborhood Center, located at 15003 Yorktown Colony Drive, Houston, TX 77084. The family-friendly gathering is being held in partnership with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and will bring residents, public-safety agencies, community resources and local businesses together in one place.

A National Night Out Built Around The Colonies

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the people they serve while encouraging the kind of neighbor-to-neighbor connections that can help communities become safer and more connected.

That mission will take on a distinctly local feel in The Colonies.

The event has been registered with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and residents will have an opportunity to meet HCSO deputies during the evening. The Cy-Fair Fire Department is also scheduled to attend with an emergency vehicle, giving families a closer look at the people and equipment involved in responding when local emergencies occur.

Harris County 9-1-1 will add an educational component with a community booth, giving residents and families an opportunity to learn more about emergency communications and the role 9-1-1 plays in connecting callers with help when it is needed.

Together, those appearances turn National Night Out into more than a social gathering. They create an informal setting where residents can ask questions, introduce children to local first responders and become more familiar with the public-safety resources serving The Colonies.

Food, Games, Swimming and Time With Neighbors

The Colonies National Night Out will also leave plenty of room for simply enjoying the neighborhood.

Plans include food and refreshments, family activities and games, community resources, a vendor market and exhibits. Residents are encouraged to bring family members, friends, neighbors and lawn chairs and make an evening of it.

The swimming pool will remain open throughout the weekend, adding another option for families who want to spend more time close to home.

For longtime neighbors, the event can be an opportunity to reconnect. For newer residents, it offers an easy introduction to the wider community. And for families, it provides a casual setting where children can play while adults meet the people living just a few streets away.

That simple interaction is part of what National Night Out is meant to encourage. Knowing who lives nearby, recognizing local deputies and first responders and becoming familiar with community resources can help turn a collection of houses into a more connected neighborhood.

Resident Volunteers, Local Vendors and Small Businesses Invited to Participate

Harris County MUD No. 102 is also inviting resident volunteers plus local vendors and small businesses to participate in the National Night Out vendor market.

Volunteers are encouraged to get involved in The Colonies’ National Night Out and help make the neighborhood gathering a welcoming, community-focused event for residents of all ages.

Businesses interested in setting up a booth may use the event to introduce their merchandise or services to residents throughout The Colonies while taking part in a community-centered evening.

The vendor component gives residents an opportunity to discover businesses operating in and around their own community while giving local entrepreneurs a chance to make personal connections with potential customers — something that fits naturally with National Night Out’s emphasis on bringing people together.

What Residents Need to Know

The Colonies National Night Out 2026 will take place Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Colonies Neighborhood Center, 15003 Yorktown Colony Drive, Houston, TX 77084.

Residents can expect food and refreshments, family activities and games, vendors and exhibits, community resources, Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies, a Cy-Fair Fire Department emergency vehicle and an educational booth from Harris County 9-1-1. The neighborhood pool will also be open throughout the weekend.

Families can bring their lawn chairs, invite a neighbor and stop by for part of the evening or stay awhile.

For The Colonies, National Night Out is ultimately about something close to home: creating more opportunities for neighbors to know one another and for residents to know the people and resources helping keep their community safe.
