Summer Blood Drive at The Ballard House Offers Governors Place Residents a Chance to Save Lives
Residents of Governors Place and surrounding neighborhoods are invited to make a life-saving difference this Saturday, June 21, at a local blood drive hosted at The Ballard House, located near the heart of the neighborhood. The event will run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Donor Coach stationed on site.
With blood shortages becoming more critical during the summer months, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is urging the community to step up. All donors will receive a free $25 e-gift card as a token of appreciation. Appointments are encouraged and can be made online at Commit for Life, but walk-ins are welcome.
The blood drive is being coordinated by David Brown at The Ballard House, a local nonprofit that provides temporary housing for patients and their families who are receiving treatment in the Houston area. For questions, residents can reach him directly at david.brown@theballardhouse.org.
Why Summer Blood Donations Are Urgently Needed
Summer typically brings a decline in blood donations, as school-based drives take a hiatus and many families head out on vacation. However, trauma cases and emergency procedures don’t pause with the seasons. In fact, blood demand often increases in the summer, making community drives like this one essential.
"During the summer, we see fewer donations but the need remains constant—or even increases," Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center representatives often remind the public. "Every blood donation can save up to three lives."
