Katy YMCA’s 24th Annual Turkey Dash Returns Thanksgiving Morning with Family Races, Kids Activities and a Cause Worth Running For

Thanksgiving morning in Katy means more than getting the turkey in the oven and preparing for a day around the dinner table. For many local families, it also means lacing up their running shoes, gathering with friends and neighbors, and starting the holiday with a tradition that gives back to the community.

The Katy YMCA’s 24th Annual Turkey Dash returns Thursday, November 26, 2026, bringing runners, walkers, children and spectators together at the Monty Ballard YMCA at Cinco Ranch, located at 22807 Westheimer Parkway in Katy, TX 77494.

Now celebrating its 24th year, the Katy YMCA Turkey Dash has become a familiar part of Thanksgiving in the Katy and Cinco Ranch communities, offering families a chance to enjoy the holiday together while supporting YMCA programs that help local children and families throughout the year.

From competitive runners hoping to set a personal record to parents introducing their little ones to their first race, the event offers several ways to participate. And for those who would rather cheer from the sidelines, the morning includes plenty of activities beyond the finish line.

Four Thanksgiving Day Races Offer Something for Every Age and Fitness Level

The 2026 Katy YMCA Turkey Dash features four race options, giving participants the flexibility to choose a distance that fits their age, interests and abilities.

The Thanksgiving morning race schedule is as follows:

Race

Start Time

10K Timed Run

7:30 a.m.

5K Timed Walk/Run

7:50 a.m.

1 Mile Kids Race, ages 3 to 12

9:15 a.m.

1 Mile Family Walk/Run

9:30 a.m.

Awards Ceremony

9:30 a.m.

The 10K and 5K provide opportunities for runners and fitness enthusiasts looking to get some miles in before Thanksgiving celebrations begin. Meanwhile, the 1 Mile Family Walk/Run welcomes families who simply want to spend time together outdoors, without the pressure of a longer race.

Young runners ages 3 through 12 can enjoy their own moment in the spotlight during the dedicated Kids Race.

Every participant who finishes a race will receive a medal, giving children and adults alike something to take home as a reminder of their Thanksgiving morning accomplishment.

Turkey Tailgate Brings More Family Fun to the Finish Line

The fun doesn't end when runners cross the finish line.

The YMCA is bringing back its Turkey Tailgate, a post-race gathering designed to make the morning enjoyable for participants and spectators alike.

Families can look forward to a fully equipped Kids Zone, local vendors and interactive booths, creating opportunities to visit with neighbors, explore community organizations and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.

For parents with younger children, the activities offer another reason to make the Turkey Dash a family outing. Grandparents, friends and other supporters can also join the festivities while cheering on their favorite runners.

The Turkey Tailgate adds a community celebration to an event already built around bringing Katy families together.

More Than a Thanksgiving Race: How the Katy YMCA Turkey Dash Gives Back

Behind the medals and Thanksgiving festivities is a purpose that extends well beyond race day.

The Katy YMCA Turkey Dash supports the YMCA's work to make important programs and services accessible to children and families, including those facing financial barriers.

Funds raised through the event help support initiatives such as swim lessons, wellness programs and opportunities for families to participate in YMCA activities regardless of their financial circumstances.

For a child, that support could mean access to swim instruction that teaches essential water safety skills. For a family working within a tight budget, it could mean an opportunity to participate in wellness activities and community programs that might otherwise be out of reach.

These are the kinds of everyday opportunities that help families stay healthy, connected and supported.

The event also gives local businesses, sponsors and volunteers an opportunity to contribute to the YMCA's community mission. In that way, the Turkey Dash brings together more than runners. It connects people who want to help make Katy a place where more families have access to the resources they need.

How to Register for the 2026 Katy YMCA Turkey Dash

Registration is open for the Thanksgiving Day event, and families interested in participating can sign up through the official Katy YMCA Turkey Dash registration website.

The website also provides information about race participation, group registration, volunteer opportunities, sponsorships and donations.

Those who want to support the cause without running can volunteer, become a sponsor or make a donation directly through the event website.

With Thanksgiving falling on Thursday, November 26, this year, residents planning to participate may want to register ahead of time and check the official event page for updated registration fees, packet pickup arrangements, parking information and other race-day instructions.

A Katy Thanksgiving Tradition That Keeps Giving Back

For nearly a quarter-century, the Katy YMCA Turkey Dash has offered local families a different way to begin Thanksgiving, combining exercise, friendly competition and time together before the day's holiday gatherings.

Some participants return year after year, while others may be signing up for the first time. Whether they tackle the 10K, walk the family mile or cheer for their children in the Kids Race, they will be part of a community tradition with a purpose beyond the finish line.

And perhaps that's what makes this Thanksgiving event special. Families can start the holiday making memories of their own while helping other Katy-area families access programs that can make a lasting difference.
