Special Pals Joins BISSELL Pet Foundation's Nationwide 'Empty the Shelters' Campaign
BISSELL Pet Foundation, a leading national animal welfare organization, has once again initiated its "Empty the Shelters" campaign this spring. The two-week-long event, taking place from May 1 to 15, involves more than 410 shelters in 43 states and is aimed at reducing pet homelessness by driving nationwide adoption. Special Pals, a nonprofit rescue near Katy, will be participating in this initiative.
Founded in Houston in 1979, Special Pals has a rich history of championing animal welfare, rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding forever homes for animals in need. As a nonprofit organization, they go beyond just caring for animals, providing a wide array of services encompassing animal adoption, pet wellness, and support for animal-related concerns.
During the "Empty the Shelters" campaign, Special Pals will offer reduced adoption fees for dogs and cats in their care.
"Our nation’s animal shelters are facing a capacity crisis and need your help now," said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. "Our Spring National ‘Empty the Shelters' will support the adoption of thousands of pets across the country, helping shelters in this critical time. Opening your home to a shelter pet saves a life and creates lifesaving space to help another pet in need."
Since its inception in 2016, the "Empty the Shelters" event has proven to be the largest funded adoption event in the country, helping over 226,000 pets find loving homes. The event urges families to research the pet they are interested in adopting, as well as the adoption requirements.
