Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar Bringing Hibachi, Sushi and Japanese Dining to San Antonio as Restaurant Renovation Moves Forward
San Antonio residents looking for another place to enjoy sushi, hibachi and Japanese cuisine have something new to anticipate. Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar is preparing to open a restaurant at 111 Southwest Loop 410, Suite A, San Antonio, TX 78245, bringing a Texas-based restaurant concept known for its tableside cooking, fresh sushi and Japanese-inspired dining to the city's West Side.
The upcoming restaurant will occupy the former Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet location, giving the longtime restaurant property a new purpose. For residents in the surrounding Westover Hills area and nearby neighborhoods, the addition could mean another option for family dinners, birthday celebrations, date nights and meals close to home.
A newly registered construction filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) provides additional details about the project, including a $400,000 renovation of an existing 4,412-square-foot restaurant space, with work scheduled to begin January 15, 2027, and conclude August 15, 2027. The dates represent the project's anticipated construction schedule, not a confirmed restaurant opening date.
What's Planned for the New Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar in San Antonio?
According to the TDLR construction filing registered October 31, 2026, the project involves remodeling the existing restaurant into a new Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar.
Although the filing categorizes the work as new construction, its stated scope describes renovations to the existing restaurant building. The privately funded project carries an estimated construction cost of $400,000 and covers 4,412 square feet.
The latest filing follows earlier plans for improvements at the same address. An August 2025 state filing outlined a $350,000 project to add dining space to the property, suggesting that preparations for the restaurant have been underway for some time.
The building previously housed Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet, which closed its San Antonio location in 2023. The property has since been undergoing changes to accommodate its next restaurant tenant. In October 2026, local reporting documented exterior renovations underway at the site.
Shogun has also added the San Antonio address to its official restaurant website, where the location is currently listed as "COMING SOON."
What Is Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar? A Look at the Texas Restaurant Chain
For diners unfamiliar with the name, Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar is a Houston-area restaurant brand that has expanded throughout Texas, building its following around Japanese steakhouse dining, sushi preparation and the entertainment of hibachi-style cooking.
The company describes its restaurants as destinations for both traditional sushi and interactive Japanese grill dining, where chefs prepare meals in front of guests at teppanyaki cooking stations.
Unlike a typical sit-down restaurant, the hibachi experience places part of the evening's entertainment right at the table. Guests can watch chefs prepare steak, chicken, shrimp and vegetables on a heated grill, making the meal a popular format for groups and special occasions.
Shogun has established a presence across several Texas markets over the years. The company's website identifies more than 20 restaurant locations across the state, including the Greater Houston area, Austin-area communities and North Texas.
Its listed locations include restaurants in Baytown, Cypress, Spring, The Woodlands, Pearland, Rosenberg, New Caney, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, College Station and Plano, among others. The company also identifies San Antonio as part of its continuing expansion.
Although the chain has an established history of operating restaurants across Texas, a specific founding year for this Shogun brand has not been confirmed through its official website.
What's on the Menu at Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar?
One of Shogun's distinguishing features is its combination of Japanese steakhouse cooking and sushi bar offerings, giving diners different ways to enjoy a meal depending on the occasion.
According to the restaurant's official menu, Shogun's teppanyaki dinners feature proteins such as chicken, steak, salmon, shrimp, scallops and filet mignon, along with vegetable options.
Traditional teppanyaki dinners at existing locations generally include onion soup, salad, a shrimp appetizer, grilled vegetables and rice. The restaurant also offers combination dinners for guests who prefer more than one protein.
Among Shogun's featured meals are the Banzai Dinner, which combines steak, chicken and shrimp, and the Shogun Special, featuring filet mignon, lobster and chicken.
For sushi enthusiasts, the menu at existing Shogun restaurants includes familiar favorites such as California rolls, spicy tuna rolls, salmon rolls, sashimi and specialty combinations. Other offerings include shrimp tempura, gyoza, Japanese noodles, bento boxes and fried rice.
Shogun also advertises a selection of sake, wine, cocktails and beer, providing options for diners interested in a complete night out.
While these dishes provide a preview of what San Antonio customers may be able to expect, the specific menu, prices and operating hours for the new Loop 410 location have not yet been announced. Offerings can vary by restaurant.
Another Dining Option for San Antonio's Growing West Side
For families and residents on San Antonio's West Side, the Shogun project represents an opportunity to welcome another established Texas restaurant concept to an existing commercial corridor.
The Southwest Loop 410 area serves neighborhoods and businesses across western San Antonio, including communities near Westover Hills and the surrounding Highway 151 corridor.
The redevelopment also brings new activity to a restaurant building that has been vacant since Dimassi's departure. Rather than constructing an entirely separate dining destination, the project will reuse an existing restaurant property, making it part of the ongoing changes to the area's commercial landscape.
For local diners, Shogun's combination of sushi and hibachi could offer a convenient choice for occasions when the experience is just as important as the meal itself. Whether gathering around a grill for a family birthday or stopping in for a sushi dinner, the restaurant's format is designed to accommodate different dining preferences.
The addition also reflects Shogun's broader growth beyond its Houston-area roots as the brand continues establishing locations throughout Texas.
When Will Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar Open in San Antonio?
As of November 2026, Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar has not announced an official grand opening date for its San Antonio restaurant.
The latest TDLR filing identifies January 15, 2027, as the anticipated construction start date and August 15, 2027, as the estimated completion date. Those dates remain subject to change and should not be interpreted as confirmation that the restaurant will open in August.
Residents interested in following the project can find the San Antonio location listed on the company's official Shogun locations page.
With a familiar restaurant property being prepared for a new chapter, San Antonio diners have another upcoming opening to keep on their radar. Additional details about the restaurant's opening date, menu and hours are expected as the project progresses.
